Default Which Timing Chain To Use???

Im not sure on which timing chain to use. Some people say dont use the heavy duty. Would I go with Cloye's if I had an electric water pump??

Go with a Summit true double roller. Very strong and only $42.

A lot depends on what year car you have I believe. I know on nonvented optis you really dont' have many choices. I went with the Lunati kit from Summit back when it was $109, now I think they're selling them for around $200. Not sure though.

If you have a vented Opti, Id check out Cloyes, or Rollmaster. If not, then a GM or Lunati will have to be it.

Cloyes and Summit both perform about the same, so if you have a vented opti go for whichever is cheaper. Do NOT get an LT4 extreme timing chain kit, it's a huge rip off.

What year is your car? You may already have one. 95-97 got them.

So, for my 93 Z, can the Double Roller be used for daily street driving? And why is the vented opti necessary?

One more question. What is the easiest & best way to lift the engine with only have floor jacks?

While having the engine broken down, I want to replace oil pan gasket, plus any and all that I can. Right now, getting the engine raised with limited tools (2 floor jacks) seems to be the obstacle.

Not sure about jacking up the motor with stands...I used a pump jack. The vented opti isnt necessary, just less suceptible(sp?) to water condensation and what not. A few mods to your timing cover and cam dowel pin are needed to get it to fit. But it's worth it bc a vented opti is a lot less than a non-vented opti. Only 239 from Jason Cromer samtaylor.com....shipped. Yes the double roller can be used. It's more durable. Don't go LT4 extreme duty..it's overpriced imho. Cloyes has worked well for me.

You MUST have the vented opti if you're going to use the more inexpensive Cloyes or Summit double rollers. Non-vented optisparks require a longer pin from the camshaft or something so they can't use the aforementioned double roller timing chains.

And i was under the impression that 93/94 timing covers are different than 95-97's. You also MUST use an electric water pump with a double roller. The drive splines on the water pump arent long enough to extend over the dual chains. You will most likely also have to clearance the inside of your timing cover.

I see the double roller as a bit of overkill, when many many people just use a stock replacement and are fine.

Wow! Lots of great information. Thanks guys. 93 is definitely an oddball year for the LT1's. Still a speed density piece of junk in my opinion. I am seriously considering different options and not entirely sure on anything yet. You all have been a great help and I am sure I will have more questions.

Thanks again.
