Question Borla XR-1

i have a 96 T/A with pacesetter long tubes w/ a y-pipe going into loudmouth and the sound isnt exactly what i want, basically sounds like an old chevy truck and i was wanting to go w/ true duals. i was thinking with going with 3 in. piping, an x-pipe and borla xr-1 mufflers and i wa wondering if 3 in. was the right size and also what kind of xr-1 muffelers to get because i got on Borlas site to look at them and there were like 4 different kinds. So if you guys could help me out making sure this is the right set up and anything else i need thatd be great
Thanks.

I have a single Borla XR-1 and it sounds wicked. It's a 4 inch muffler with a 16" case but the piping is 3". 3" is just fine. 4" is for high HP cars. Can't really go wrong with any of them. Probably try the smaller ones since you are going true duals. Kinda pricey but if that's what you want go for it.

I went with the dynomax bullet, and with no cat it sounds wicked even on stock manifolds.

well i forgot to say that im bringing it all the way back and not dumping it so would it be better to get the round version or oval, plus some have said it wouild be better to go w/ the 2.5 piping since i am bring it all the way back due to ground clearance but others say it'll be fine.....little insight?

With true duals 2.5 inch piping out-flows a single 3", so 2.5" should be fine. Ground clearance can be a problem if you're slammed, but if you're running at stock height you should be okay.

Dual 3" is way overkill. 2.5 will flow plenty for your purposes, unless you're planning on pushing in the neighborhood of 500 ponies.

If you're getting 2.5 inch pipes a 3" muffler will work fine, they'll just neck it down for you. I don't know if borla sells a 2.5 or 2.75 inch muffler. Probably not.

Another thing is that they cant run it out the back and on the Trans Am's they have the 2 cut-outs in the bumper for the tips so what have some of you guys w/ T/A's done with exhaust dumped at te axle done to make the *** end of the car look better? Dont wanna put a mesh screen on there because that would look a little too ricer'ish. Any ideas???

My Borla is dumped to the driver side. You can see the muffler through the bumper cover but I don't think anything of it.
