Default Titanium Retainers for Beehives

I cant seem to find any Titanium Retainers for the Comp Cam 918 springs. Where did everyone else get them, or are you guys just running steal retainers? Everything else is great thats going in the valvetrain, and just to be safe i wanted to go with Titanium Retainers. Any help if they make them, and who carrys them?

Since the retainers are already so small titanium is of FAR less benifit with beehives than it is with standard springs. The only titanium beehive retainers I am aware of are for the LS1s metric valves and 6.5degree lock angle. I know of someone who seriously cut a set of LT4 heads trying to get beehives setup right with the LS1 retainers and such and afterwards figured out the metric valve and different lock angle thing were the cause. I believe he is running it like that but would not recommend it, I know they cut the seats DEEP to get the installed height right. As I already said though with the small retainer titanium doesn't offer the weight savings it can with a larger retainer so is therefore not worth worrying about anyway.

When deciding on the 918s did you consider that beehives need a lot less pressure to control the same cam, those will control a lot of cam without going to exessive lengths to lighten other componenets.

Lloyd Elliot uses comp beehive springs on his LE2 and LE3 LT1 setups. Each level has a differnent type. Maybe he'll help you out.

like the other guys were saying, they are so much smaller, the steel ones are probably lighter than say my 1.45" ti-retainers on my springs. titanium is an unecessary expense.

Lloyd's LE3 package uses titanium retainers, while the LE2 does not.

If someone does come up with a PN for the titanium beehive retainers please do post it. I do believe they of far less benifit to beehives over regular springs but I would still like to see the info made easier to find. I also plan on using 915s and might even end up pushing them a bit far and something little like this might one day be the insurance I need.

Default Ti retainers

96 Caprice,

794-16 is the part # for Ti 10 degree retaniers for bee hives on LT1's.

The 918's will still be fine with a stock lifter and have more pressure than the 915's.

Those retainers for both size beehives, and any 10degree lock for this size valve works fine or do we need specific? Thank you for the info and one day I am sure I will push fast enough to use your services. At this point I have a ZZ3 cam so the 918s would just be overkill I was not worried about the lifters as I know that behives do a great job without exessive pressure.
The way I see it is it is just best to run adequate pressure with some safety I do not see the sense in making the engine do extra work of lifting far overkill springs. A guy at the dragstrip the other night was bragging to me how they reamed out the seats in his AFR heads and he was running circle track springs with 200lbs. more pressure than he needed, I don't want to be like that. I realize that valvespring pressure may not be a huge contributor the the work an engine has to do to sustain itself but still prefer to keep it minimal but safe.

I have a set of titanium retainers and the nylon seals for the 918's that have under 300 miles on them I will sell for $150 shipped. I went to the double springs for my lt4 heads. The retainers sell for around $180 and the nylon seals go for $50. I believe the model # for the retainers is comp. 875-16. Let me know if you want them. I will send them out tomorrow.
Thanks,
Andy

Oh and by the way, definitely worth the investment. Idles better, a little more responsive. Faster throttle reponse.
