Yes it does flow worse than regular mufflers. But you won't really notice any power losses worth anything more than around 3 rwhp. It's when you start upgrading heads and valvetrain that you'll notice more of a loss. With a more powerful setup such as a stroker and/or forced induction, it will sap much more power.

The biggest downside IMO on the Flowmaster catbacks is that they aren't stainless steel. If you've got a bolt-on car, don't even worry about swapping yet, put your money to more useful mods anyway.

Spintech mufflers sound very good, but the best sounding mufflers IMO are Dyno-Max Ultra Flo muffler...magnaflow and hooker have some nice sounds as well. The dyno-Max Ultra Flo's also flow very well.

As for good sounding mufflers/catbacks, check out the "Best Sounding Catback" thread on the front page of this section.

id ditch the flowmaster if your running a 396, prolly choking off 15hp. Get something that flows alot, like a gmmg or somthing of that nature. There are too many baffles in flowmasters mufflers to flow nicely.

Now your talking...true duals is the way to go with a stroker. My setup that I am working on is a Hedman X pipe, Dyno-Max Ultra Flo's and turn downs by the axle. I can't wait to hear this thing pur. lol. A friend of mine has true duals with spintechs on his 383 86 Iroc, and that thing sounds pretty wicked as well. Another friend has a 83 Grand Prix with a weak 305, but he has true duals with Magnaflow mufflers, and I tell you what...that thing is slow, but damn it sounds MEAN.

Shane Burgess at Thunder Racing (check out their site, his car is the nicest one on there--the gray and maroon flames) said his Spintech was ****. He said it ranks up there with Flowmaster. I would try a Dynomax Bullet or something of the sort if you went with true duals like many here are recommending. If I could do it again I would do true duals.

I've got 320 rwhp through stock manifolds. So you're saying I could have 330 or so with something different? I'll wager you any cat-back exhaust that I won't gain enough to warrant the expense. :p

When's the last time you saw snow?

The flowmaster on my V6 is rusted out and it's only been 3 years.

same here, mine has been about 150,000 miles on 2 different lt1s and still no rust, im in NC, it snows a few times a year but nothing too bad. i love the flowmaster sound on the lt1, however most of the people on here have some big hp/tq #s so i see why they are parcial to the higher flowing mufflers. i dont like the way borla sounds on a stock lt1 Z, sounds too raspy, makes me wanna , needs a little control.

my brother has a 98 z and it used to have a magnaflow on there and sounded like junk and he got a 80 series flow and sounds much much better.
