Default Hotcam longterm reliability?

A friend of mine enlisted me this last weekend to help eith a cam swap I tried to talk him out of; the lt4 hotcam kit. I did a cc306 on mine and love it but he did not want to go that route soooo here we are. Fuel injection specialties in sa tuned it for him today. Are there any of you out there who have some serious miles on your camswaps 25k+ and what kind of issues have you had. I have 6725 on my hc and exhaust and not a lick of trouble yet.

seems like everybody changes it or blows it up before then, but the hot cam was a production cam in the lt4 vette so im sure it would last. the only problems i could see would be with the real large cams you can wear out your springs after a while.

First thing the LT4 hotcam didn't come on any factory vehicle, the LT4 corvettes and the few F-body cars with LT4 engines recieved the normal LT4 cam that is slightly larger than LT1 cams.
The only thing that is of concern with the cam is not the cam but the springs. These springs were the same ones used with the regular LT4 cam which is lower lift and duration, and also keep in mind the LT4 heads had lighter valves, so these springs in the factory LT4 engines are not stretched to the limit.
Having said that, I've use this kit for about 10K miles with LT4 heads without any problem.

I had the Hotcam Kit on my car for 30K and never had any problems with it. I also have 136K on the car. Now I have had the CC306 for about 6K and still have had no problems.

Brent Franker on CZ28.com has one in his daily driver. I think it's got over 100,000 miles on it, and the majority are w/ a Hotcam.

did you reuse all of the hot cam kit with the new cc306...the R.R., springs and stuff.?

Anyone have any gas mileage figures for an auto with the hotcam. He is whining like a little girl about getting 20-22 now on the highway. I have not heard any real numbers to account for his calculation so this is anyones best guess. As a general rule a friend in need is a pest. I need so info to shoot back at him to shut him up.

Life's too short to worry about gas mileage. General rule of thumb, power costs money, and the gas to go with it.

Well, since we have the 4200lbs tunaboat (Impala SS) we just put in the hotcam and without the A/C on we got 30mpg, hwy, with the 3.08 gears. city is like 15-17.

With the A/C on......huhuhuhuh....19 hwy 10 city.
I monitered it while driving up to the pontiac Nats last month and was only at 11% TPS @ 75mph rather than 18-20% before the swap.

Compstall is exactly correct.
