Default Edelbrock Performer RPM LT1 Cam

I was just wondering if anyone out there is running the Performer RPM cam for lt1's and if it is any good I was looking at doing this with my own home ported heads on my 97 SS. Any info. on this would be greatly appreciated. Also any advice on how much much And what I should work on in the head while porting.
Thanks, 1sicss!!!!!!!!!!!

Honestly, if you have no experience porting I wouldn't mess around with the heads. If you make a mistake, it's a very expensive mistake to make. See about having your heads ported by Lloyd Elliot or Eric Bradby.

As for the cams, I haven't heard much on the Edelbrocks. I tend to stay away from Edelbrock's merchandise for the newer-school cars. I haven't had any good experiences with any of their LT1 products I've used. But don't get me wrong, I have absolutely no experience with any of their grinds nor do I have any info on them.

If you're interested in a custom cam, give Joe Overton a call.

Hope this helped.

Take a look at their specs and then at almost every other cam regularly used in these motors. You will notice a glaring difference, theirs is a single pattern same lift and duration on the exhaust as intake. This can work right with the right set of heads but as a solid rule smallblock chevy heads not just LT1 are a tad weak on the exhaust side(think the LS1 finally broke this trend) to make up for the weaker exhaust flow extra duration and or lift are generally used on the exhuast side.
I totally agree with Vendetta Edelbrock makes little of use for newer cars, the OEMs are leaving less room for improvement. Their stuff for older vehicles can be very good though. I could not believe the difference their Performer intake made on an old carbed 305 I had in a 4X4 truck.

After seeing their LT1 headers, I dont even wanna imagine what their cams like. If you read back to 1996, they were supose to bring out an intake and cam package for LT1s but never happened.

The cam is just a rip off of the hotcam.

At least the HOT cam is dual pattern to work better with the vast majority of heads. MAYBE the Edelbrock heads have a better I/E balance and the cam is optomized to them but they have weak flow numbers overall for aftermarket castings and therefore are nowhere near worth buying.
