I have had one now for about 3 years and I love it. I replaced two opti's before I decided to try this unit, and this was available before some of the other alternatives available today.

What exactly is your ignition problem? I went with the Delteq but I knew that I might still have to replace the opti cuz of the optical lens. Sure enough, the miss was still there and two months later it finally gave a DTC 16 code. So I had to buy the opti and those two items cost almost $1000. I'm not slamming Dynaspark, but all in all, you still have an opti with a cap and rotor.

Actually, it was custom built by the guy I bought my engine from. I took over his motor project, and this came with it. I'm actually using the opti for right now, crank trigger would require some machining cause of the blower pulley, and eDist + coil packs + crank trigger + other random **** would have run too much coin for right now. In the next year or so when I have the need for 7000+rpm I'll make this work.

Do a search on a couple of forums about the Dynaspark.

thanks again Jim, i will shoot you pics once i get the parts i am awaiting

p.s. my .02, get rid of the stock oil pump drive unit! why GM would house it with ******* "plastic or nylon" whatever it is produced out of is beyond me, oh hold on...cost...yeah that is it! plastic parts shouldn't be on the inside of any motor!

Maybe a little off topic, but what are the alternatives. I also live in a cold environment and have striped one gear, and also cracked a housing. I was wondering if there was anything else besides the GM junk. I am sick of tearing down this engine every 4k to replace this part.

Thumbs up

I have the DynaSpark... I could have gone with an old style distributor as I changed the intake manifold and I am using a F.A.S.T. system. But I decided that I wanted to achieve the power that I am making with an opti-spark. Keep in mind that the DynaSpark is not just a GM opti with a billet case. It is a completely redesigned piece with the short-commings of the GM opti-spark corrected. I would highly recommend this part for anyone that is changing their opti-spark. The other alternatives look much too cluttered in my opinion and have they been proven to be better than a DynaSpark???

DynaSpark

in addition if it last as long as 2 optisparks it would pay for itself
people who have serious issues with optisparks may want to try it
chris 97m6formula i know has been thru about 5 or 6 opti's
i have seen them come from gm bad they have a 12 month warranty but its a PITA to change thats the main thing.
this spring i plan to get a dfi setup and im goin to run a dual sync distributor and get rid of the opti all together.
the opti is not a bad design its is where they put the damn thing that makes it so bad, or if they would have sealed the optics and used it to fire coil packs i think it would have been ok also.
