Default LS1 vs LT1

Sorry I know its probably a frequent question, but Im looking into getting a LT1. I want an LS1 but it doesnt seem like its going to happen and I found an LT1 close to me. Are they really that much worse than the LS1? Anything specifically worse about them?
Thanks

How much are you looking to spend? You can find a LS1 with 50k miles or more for around or under 10 grand. If it was me, I'd get the LS1. Better looks and better power stock wise. LT1's typically dyno around 250-260 stock and LS1's are usually a consistent 300. It's also iron block vs. aluminum block, so LS1's weigh like 250 lbs less than an LT1. It's all up to you.

I used to think the same thing, but the price on LS1 f-bodies has been dropping steadily each day. If you can find an LS1, go with that.

I believe the weight difference is more like 80lbs and not 250lbs. Both cars will go fast with the right parts. Pick the car you like the most.

Hmmm, learn something new everyday. Someone once told me they weigh 3700 lbs stock, whereas an LS1 weighs 3450 lbs stock. I don't know, I just always went by that. I guess the guy was wrong?

*EDIT: Yeah, I would say the engines are about 80 lbs difference. I looked up on AutoTrader and the curb weight of a stock '97 LT1 Z28 is 3442 lbs and the curb weight of a stock '02 LS1 Z28 is 3439 lbs. I'm not sure how accurate AutoTrader is with curb weights, but that's what they said.

I looked up some LS1's on AutoTrader that's close to your area.

1999 Z28 - $10,750...79k miles (black)

1999 Z28 - $10,250...77k miles (black)

1998 Trans Am - $9,500...80k miles (red)

There was hardly any out there around your area of NY for a decent price. There's lots here in Ohio for sale. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice guys, and 00 SLVR Z thanks for looking them up for me. My main problem is that I have 2 cars, 1 on loan for the next 4.5 years. So I wanted to trade the other one (66 buick)...so Im really at mercy of anyone willing to trade me. I dont really want to take out another loan because its hard enough to keep up with this one...I made a post saying I wanted to trade for an LS1 and havnt had any responses, but found an LT1 within 3 hours who said he might be interested...I also like the look of the LS1's more and the fact the come with more power, just want to know that the LT1's arent jokes you know? in case this deal goes through...Thanks Again.

well you know that the 2nd gen motors (LT1's/LT4's) got pulled pretty quick,...they only lasted i think what....8 years...there abouts right? they didnt have that great of a engine design with their reverse flowing coolent and such,....anyways why not just get taht 4.5 year loan car and trade down to a cheaper car to bring that loan down and get that LS1 you REALLY want..dont just buy one fast to have one when you know you want the LS1, just save it and wait until you are really ready.

The Lt-1 is a awesome engine. Ive owned over 8 of them. I love the Lt-1 and in many ways I like it better then the LS1 Most people are going to say get the LS1, while it maybe a cheaper engine to mod and get big numbers out of, the LT1 is my favorite to drive everyday. I still drive my LT1 Impala SS everday. I knew a guy with 800,000 miles on a LT1 engine that was maintained well. They put them in police cars from 1994-1996 and many of them are still in service. The LS1 may be more advanced and more bang for the buck. The LT-1 is a powerplant that runs forever, has plently of power, can be modded, super strong, and has tons of low end.

i agree with ya radio. ive had an LT-1 and an LS1. i like my LS1 but the LT-1 will last for a lot longer than the aluminum block of the LS1. also (ive heard this, and can see where it makes sense, but it may not be 100% correct) LT-1s being steel can stand forced induction without having to buy the forged bottom end like an LS1. if you want forced induction, go LT-1. theres a kid here with an LT-1 T/A that is yet to lose an LS1. hes got Nitto's, headers, Stage III clutch, cold air, and dumps on the exhaust. when i raced him, he got the launch for obvious reasons and i never could catch up. i guess with everything opened up, breathing wise, he had the mid range that a stock LT-1 lacks and was able to run the midrange with power like an LS1. and i know his car will out last mine. bottom line...if you want an LT-1, go for it, you won't be disappointed. and you can put a lot of miles on it, the car will fall apart around the motor before that motor dies. we'll be happy for ya whatever you get.

The Lt-1 is a great platform. thats why i own one of each both are very good power plants... both have been in the single digits even in N/A form.

go with which ever YOU like the most

the only high miliage ls1 cars i've seen have only had 200k on them, not as many as the lt1's since they havnt been around as long as them. the one thing i do ike on lt1's is the sound. those make ground shack with the iron block. other than that i'd still recommend the ls1, the ls1 has alot of ppl behind it, just look at this website!!

Thought about doing something with the truck thats on 4.5 year loan but I have way to much fun with it. https://ls1tech.com/forums/introductions-greetings/362263-new-here.html
And when I need it, its great on the road and in winter (which I will need it going to college 2 hours from home and in NY)...I love having the comfort on the highway and then going off road in it.

Thanks for the positive feedback on the LT1's....almost makes me feel somewhat better about giving up the car I have loved for the past few years for one. Took a guilt trip from my dad on it tonight "I thought it would be passed down through the family"....that brought me down.

lol, an LT1 will have a much better chance of lasting long enough to be "passed down".

really if youre not gonna be going to the track and just want a stoplight to stoplight rush, buy the LT-1. torque peak is at a much lower RPM than the LS1, AKA, down low...it feels more powerful.

325 ft. lbs. @ 2400 rpm

Nothing beats the feel of the LT1 off the line.

I'm surprised that no one has talked about the way they sound. . .

LT1s sound mean. LS1s sound clean.
