From my own personal experiences, your average bone stock LT1 runs low 14's @ 97-99 (some a little better; some a little worse). Whereas your average bone stock LS1 runs mid 13's @ 103-105 (some a little better; some a little worse). Everything just depends upon vehicle condition, transmission, gearing, driver error, track prep, and weather...

Best I've ever seen an LT1 go completely stock was a 13.5ish...And it wasn't too long ago that someone local here ran his factory stock '01 WS6 to a 12.8ish @ 109 at Union Grove (Great Lakes Dragway).

Anyway, to the thread starter...A newer car would no doubt be nice, but you won't have much money leftover after you purchase a lower-mileaged LS1. Since you won't get $hit for your '93, I say just keep it, do ONLY bolt-ons while your in college (to maintain your drivability & gas mileage). You'll also have plenty of money in the bank in case you need it. And then finally build up the motor once you can purchase a new DD car after you graduate and start up in the real world...

Just my .02...

Thanks for the advice, and I think that's the route I'm gonna go. Do Headers I will already have my exhaust and cutout. Maybe a TB, 3.42's and a Stall. Springs and Shocks for sure and probably SFC's. Make it faster, not lose to much gas mileage. When I get out of college, I'm thinking about rebuilding the engine, making it a 383 Stroker, Forging everything, throwing a Procharger on, 12 bolt, big boy suspension mods, heads/cam etc. And having a somewhat driveable 10-11 second bracket car. Then I will undertake another project, maybe buy a 98+ SS, throw a 502 in it, blower etc. And have a pro-steet F-Body. Time will tell, but I've decided I want my first Camaro into the 10's on the original LT1. No sense keeping it very streetable when I will have a different daily driver lol.

(although I ******* hate optisparks )
Paid 7k for my 98 trans am with decent mileage and perfect mechanical condiotn (near perfect cosmetically as well). It just depends on the deals you can find. I was about to buy an lt1 camaro until i saw the trans am.

No idea why that guy thought that, lol.

Mike
Lol, maybe because I read it somewhere, and I know I read it pretty much exactly like that... "The Police (or it might have said something more specific like Highway Patrol) Camaros kept the LT1 engines for the 2000 model due to fuel economy and reliability".

I was trying to find the site to show you guys but I got a big list of sites to go through just for a little thing...

So Mike, I have no idea why you DIDNT think why I thought that, lol.

I'm not doubting you, because I obviously haven't read it. It just seems unreliastic to me considering the LT1 was no longer in production. Did they take a motor out of a 97SS or something? Or did they just find an LT1 lieing around?

Sorry about that, was kinda tired and such last night... I dont know the details of it, I just remember reading it, I even spoke to a friend about it and when another LS1 friend brought up that a LS1 would not take the miles that an LT1 would so it seemed to fit in place. Owell.

Yeah it makes since, considering the LT1 is such a strong motor. I might have to do a little research, not to prove you wrong or anything, it's just interesting that they might have done that.

Prove it then. I'm sorry bro, but the LT1 was REMOVED from the Vette in '96 & from the F-body in '97. Like I said, the '98 & up B4C Camaros ONLY had the LS1 put in them. And you do realize that the LS1 actually gets better fuel economy than the LT1 (stock vs stock) don't you, lol?!

Maybe you read somewhere in a magazine about someone doing an engine swap or project car or something along those lines??? But I assure you no LT1's were still being put into a factory built Camaro in the 2000 model year...

WTF kinda drug you on? I said I read it somewhere, wtf you want me to do? I tried searching for the article as I stated above but theres just too much to go through just for this little of a thing.

Im just stating what I read, I did not say "The LT1 gets better blah blah blah" I said I read that. And no it was not in a magazine it was a F-Body site with information about the LS1 vs LT1.

Even Renegade said "Yeah it makes since, considering the LT1 is such a strong motor" so thats why I believed it. Ill try looking for the article again however.

"WTF kinda drug you on?" LOL, that's actually funny man. Seriously, how old are you?

Anyway, so you read it somewhere...Well, that's fine...Who knows, MAYBE what you heard was legit...But, I just countered what you read with the "truth" about what motor the actual 2000 B4C Camaros had from the factory, that's all. Sorry you've took that the wrong way then...No need to get all bent out of shape over it bro...

Peace

So it's what.. .7 faster on average? that's nothing. Easily reached with bolt-ons. Or a good pair of slicks and a cut-out, with a good driver.

ALOT faster would a few seconds.

I've driven both LT1s and LS1s, bone stock. Honestly the LS1 didn't impress me so much that I had to spend the extra 9-10 grand for one

I've raced plenty of (stock and light bolt-on) LS1s in my car, I've won about half the races.
