Default Worth Doing?

Two mods on an LT1

1. Throttle Body Coolant Bypass...like $20 for the kit @ RKSport
2. Throttle Body Air Foil......$34.95 @ RKSport

Anyone done these...make any difference? Simple enough, just curious if they produce much. Thanks in advance.

The TB bypass can be up to 5 rwhp. Many dyno sheets have proven that.

Not sure how much the airfoil gets you. Probably less.

The by-pass can be done for about $5 with common hand tools. Do a search on this site, i'm sure you find the procedure, or if someone else can post the link.

The Airfoil might give you 2rwhp, but I think it's ever been proven on a dyno. Take the $50 you were gonig to spend (minus $5 for doing you own by-pass) and make you own cold air induction.

The coolant bypass is a breeze and I guess it helps a tiny bit.

The air foil is an absolute waste of time and money in my opinion. There is no way that redirecting that tiny amount of air can help. Just my .02

TB Bypass is extremely easy on a 95-97

http://shbox.com/1/tb_bypass.jpg

Was the first mod I did to my car, took me maybe 10 minutes or so, couple screwdrivers and a pair of pliars.

Yah, definitely the only thing you should be paying for in this mod is the caps to put on the TB.

Yup, and those cost nothing. Definitely a cheap easy mod that anyone should be able to do. 93-94s are a little more involved and require a brass t fitting or something I believe. But I see both of your car is a 97 SS30ANV....so you shouldn't have to worry about that.

I did the tb bypass with a couple store bought caps and I also bought an airfoil.....as far as them doing anything I dont have a clue (no sotp gain) But, my car does run damn strong for what I have done, and I am a true believer that every little bit helps.

You can do the TB-bypass free if you don't mind the old coolent lines being uncapped... I never capped mine, you can't see them anyways.

TB Bypass Dyno

Air Foil Dyno

This page had the dyno results from alot of mods: www.ws6.com/mycar.htm

Depending on what other mods you've done, the money may be better spent elsewhere.

Every little bit helps.

These are some of the cheapest and most cost effective mods you can do. According to those dynos, that guy got 8.3 rwhp from both mods. Both of them together should cost $50 max, less if you buy the components for the TB bypass yourself instead of the kit.

Show me another mod that will get you 8.3 rwhp for $50.

Like I said earlier...you don't even have to buy any components for the bypass on a 95-97...unless you just want the caps for the tb. Besides that, it's 100% free unless you don't own a pair of pliars and a couple screwdrivers, and certainly they would have friends that own em...lol.

I was also lucky enough to have an airfoil already on my car when I bought it, lol.

I have an airfoil....its definitely not worth the money unless you just have the money to waste, only reason I have it because it came with the car when I bought it.

Default worthless

here's a worthless mod.... 1.5/8" shorty headers!!! or almost any 1.5/8" header period!

scept MAC - theyre the exception i suppose....

just seems to me that these motors need 1.3/4" primaries and 2.5-3" collectors... $500 for a good set with Y-pipe

oh, and underdrive pulleys - another worthless mod for the most part... $100+

oh and valve cover breathers - worthless for the most part!

..... hypertech power programmer - just about worthless unless you can get it free or < $100 ! ... but no, its $300 or so!

lots of people do useless **** on these cars... the air foil isnt worthless because its CHEAP... the throttly body bypass isn't worthless because its CHEAP (sometimes FREE!)! If something is <$100 and it nets you 5+hp/tq then IMO its WORTH IT!
