Default Air foil for a 94 Z28. Worth it? Or no?

I'm thinking about getting an air foil for my car, but I don't know if it's worth it. I think they are like 50 bucks or something. Does it do anything? Will I notice a difference in power, or in my track times? I would appreciate the imput. Thanks

-Jay

You could probably put that money somewhere else and it be well spent. Save it for gas since it's going up. Things you shouldn't bother with are air foils and pulleys. Not gonna amount to much of anything.

It might get you 2-3 rwhp max. You'll have to decide if that's worth it.

Here's a dyno sheet someone posted in another thread. Looks like he got 2.4.

Thanks for all the help. In my opinion, I've decided it's pretty useless unless you have the money to spend.

Anyone know of any mod I can do that isn't really expensive, but is worth the money? I currently have a moroso CAI, 160' thermostat, underdrive pulleys, I got the metal intake elbow, and exhaust with no cat.

Fan switch for the staging lanes. (make it yourself for less then $5)

TB Bypass = free.

You're pretty much past all the cheap boltons. heh. Start saving for some headers.

Skip the fan switch and put the money towardsa something like www.pcmforless.com they will make the fans turn on at a much lower temp automatically.

When you do the TB bypass get a new gasket a can of TB cleaner an old toothbrush and the torx bit to remove the IAC and go to town cleaning that thing, also take a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol and CAREFULLY clean the little resistors in the MAF. Just these little things can make a signifigant improvement in drivability, not so much power.

I looked at the charts and he only did two pulls, one each with and without. You could vary 2 rwhp just in back to back pulls with no mods. If I remember correctly, I dynoed once and did two baselines and they had a variance of 3 between them.

Yea I would say mail order tune is your next best bet, that or an exhaust cutout is really cheap ($30 for part and around 20 to 90 dollars to have it welded on) I say between 20 and 90 to have it welded on, because I have seen some people get it welded on real cheap, but somehow I got ripped and had to pay 90 bucks...I wasn't so happy, but oh well. After that your best bet is longtubes, 3.73 gears, and a stall converter. Of those 3 the stall converter will get you the best gains at the track if you have some drag radials and can hook up good. Stall converter is my next mod and should get me into the 12's very solidly since I have MT drag radials. I also put an ASP crank replacement underdrive pulley on and I felt a decent gain and saw about 1 mph and a tenth or 2 at the track, but it will run you about 160 bucks.

The purpose of the foil is to promote laminar airflow into the TB. Some claim 2-11 hp gains from them but I am highly sceptical of that. I would save another $150 and get a Moroso CAI.

Its been dyno proven to gain around 2 rwhp. Whether it is worth it or not is a personal preference. Some people think it is, while others dont. Its all a matter of how much money you want to spend to get hp.

I would not consider a gain of 2 rwhp from one dyno run to the next "proven" that an air foil provides performance gains. I have saw plenty of cars gain or loose 5 hp from 1 dyno run to the next without any changes in the setup
