Default Cam help

Can someone fully explain the cam specs like

"224 236 on a 510 530 lift..110 lsa or a 112"

or

230/ 236 .90 .578 114

I dont understand those numbers or what they mean, someone help me out, thanks alot

Example:

224/236= would be your duration and how long the valves stay open.

510/530 as you know would be the lift on the intake and exaust side. LSA would be you lobe seperation angle.

224= duration the intake valve stays open
236= duration the exhaust valve stays open
510= itake lift (check with the cam manufacturer to see if the lift numbers are 1.5 or 1.6 raocker ratio)
110= Lobe seperation angle (the number of degrees in which the intake and exhaust lobe centerline fall on)

to acheive optimal performance, you must select a cam that coplements the mods you have on your car. Too small a cam and the car will not realize it's full potential, too big a cam will make it a dog. They are also selected by rpm operating range as well as forced induction or N/A. Hope this helps!

if you are wanting a cam and dont understand everything, the best thing to do is to call up a company, like Futral Motorsports, or Comp Cams, and talk to someone about what you want from a cam, such as hp numbers, drivability, and what you plan on doing with the car, such as Nitrous, blower, turbo, or just all motor. They are very helpful and can set you up with the cam that fits you. Custom grinds are made every day.
