Questions on stroker setups
You don't necessarily need new heads but I feel it is a waste to spend the money and build a stroker and use stock heads. Even with LE3 or something comparable with stock castings a 383 or 396 will peak around 6000-6200 i believe...it won't just fall off in power but it wont keep building it. I feel any hihg performance engine should at least pull to 7000...in order to do this you need a good cylinder head. Strokers need alot of air to make more power than a stout 355. The reason I went with a 355 for the current build because i don't have the money to go all out with a stroker at this time. The stock LT1 or LT4 castings ported provide plenty for the stock displacement to rev 7000 and make very good power. This is the same reason many stout 383 and 396 LT1 builds rarely make much more power than a 355.
camaro of idaho, these are questions that should be asked in the same thread that you already started. You don't need to start a new thread for every seperate question. If the two are related, keep them in the same thread rather than cluttering the forum with several threads all on the same topic.

wow, you should probly not worrie so much then, maybe leave your house walk in the park, dont sit on ls1tech so much? meh ne ways its really not that bad the threads just get left alone and fall back and no one cares except little old you.

Even though I don't post much here anymore I'm continuing to add to my FAQ when I find useful info, locking threads gone bad, consolidating threads to keep this section in an orderly fashion. Why? Certainly not cause I like it, it's a chore, but I do care. This section and the guys in it were great to me when I needed help with keeping my old LT1 running, so I feel like I owe it to them not to turn my back on this section. It's my responsibility to keep this forum up and make sure things run smoothly, and that sir is why I care.

Hey guys, me and a buddy are planning on rebuilding our 93 and 94 z28 and we keep running into problems on decideing with both of them, what do you guys think about a procharged 355ci with 8psi, or a 383 witha 200 shot, the prices are roughly the same. It all comes down to we both have to got to college and these are our daily drivers so... We need average gas mileage. he gets 14-15 i think im at 13-14. Our builder says we would be outa car for 2 months, neither of us can manage that!

more power, faster times, more reliability, and better drivebilty/ gas mileage from the 383+ gas. As for being out of a car for two months, if it takes someone 2 months to build a forged shortblock, assemble the motor and drop it in....figure in a 12 gauge shotgun to shoot them in the head with because as long as the parts are paid for and the shop is a good one...it should take longer than a few weeks at most to get it all done. just my .02
i would rather have the procharged because the power is always going to be there an u can have fun in it whenever you want but if its not all installed and tuned perfectly youll probably run into more problems than nitrous, but that can always blow the engine too
well the guy has his own shop, and he always has cars in it so.... I really got to figure out what i want, the 383 is nice, but having to drive a **** load every day to college is going to be a bitch.
I'd go with a hybrid of both setups, a 355 on a small shot of gas. If you have to use the car to commute to college every day a 355 would be far easier to manage than a 383. I tried to commute with a built 350 on a blower setup and it wasn't very manageable. An N/A setup would be much better.
