Default LT1 problems

at low RPM's it has no power and it ran fine yesterday there is also a tick coming out of the right head sounds like excessive valve lash, the car has no power up untill 2000-2500 and feels like a miss at the low end. my friend as another LT1 car and his has been doing the same thing but not as bad. does anyone have any thoughts on how this could be fixed

Pull your valve covers and check to see all rockers are tight. Pushrod should be able to spin, but not move up and down.

When you say no power does it bog till a certain RPM then shoot off? Check for possibly a burned plug wire. When is the last time you changed plugs?

well if you just did the plugs recently it could very well be the optispark distributor

its not too terribly bad it just takes some time you have to take your intake boot out, drain your coolant, remove the water pump, remove the harmonic balancer, before you can take the water pump off you have to remove the AIR pump bracket and once you get in there there are just three bolts holding the opti in there and it just slides right off getting the new one on there takes some fiddling til you get the splines lined up correctly but its not hard it just takes some patience

good luck

the ticking is getting louder and the SES light hasnt tripped and the knock is from idle to about 3000 then it goes away but comes back knocking randomly and sounds really bad on the right pass. side of the car i took the valve cover off and the lash seemed fine

I have almost the same problem with mine. But mine won't start right away either it takes it a few tries. Do you have this problem as well? Sometimes I smell gas too. My spark plugs are new and my fuel filter is new. WTF???

okay, so you've taken off both valve covers and checked all rockers to make sure they're tight, like i said in the first reply?

no the car starts right up i have taken the right pass. side valve cover off i have had three people look at it and they all say it is coming from the right and i pushed on all the rockers as the car was running and no noise difference and checked to see that the pushrods would spin and not to much slack but i am beginning to think the valve cover needs to come off again since i am thinking a collapsed lifter but i dont know. how do i know for certain?

heres what i am thinkin now if i did collapse a lifter and created a knock would the knock sensor pick that up and retard the timeing and make the car a dog down low, the knock goes away and the performance is back at about the same RPM.
just a thought could i be right? would the knock sensor trip the SES light?
