Unfortunately no. See, GM built in a little performance detector box for things like this. It has a lot of sensors that will tell the PCM what kind of power the car is making over time. If it senses that there is an aftermarket cam but the car still retains the stock stall speed, after a six month period it will tell the engine to throw a rod.

I would get that stall put in ASAP.

What????????????????????????????????? Adding a stall is going to help take advantage of where the cam makes power. Without adding a proper stall for the car, it will prolly be a serious dog off the line.

Obviously, yeah it would help. That's why I suggested he do it.

If(cam_change=yes)
If(stall=stock)
then { (day=day+1);
If(day=> 180)
then(throw_rod=TRUE)
}

What?? ok i ran a cam in my car bigger then that without a stall for about 9 months 8K miles with no problems. you will not have any problems it's just in your best interest to get a stall.

This thread went to hell in a hand basket in a hurry. Like SmokedOutZ28 said...absolutly need a stall? NO. Would it help get the most out of your setup? YES.

After my cam swap, I ran a 13.1 @106 with my stock converter. I installed a 3500stall TCI converter and the next week ran a 12.4 @ 108 with no other mods than the stall added. Same track and weather as well. Just to give you an idea of how a stall converter helped me.

Most guys get between a .4-.7 off their E/T's. Some guys get 1.0-1.1 off their E/T's with sticky tires.

Yeah you'll want a converter for sure with a cam, check with the manufacturer for their recommended stall speed, then give one of the sponsers a call and see what they can do for you.

if you get a stall with lock up its not all that bad, gas milage will suffer alittle, but the performance gain will be HUGE

also don't forget if you get a stall you want to add a tranny cooler to keep the trans oil temps down.
