how would one get a lt5 kit? it was in the 95 corvettes i think, one of the early 90's vettes. those were supposed to be badass and just wondering if there was a cam/head package out there for the conversion

There is no kit available because the LT5 has NOTHING in common with an lt1 or lt4. It is a completely different engine designed by another company for GM. You can find them every once in a while for sale if you look hard enough and if you got around $50,000 to spend! So if you want a bolt up kit stick with LT4.

No its a completely different motor, It is a dual overhead cam v8, were as the lt1 is a over head valve engine( camshaft in the block) aka push rod engine. Would be more trouble then its worth to try to convert as well as you’d be better off buying the lt5 or lsx based engine if you were going that rout. Many many things would have to be changed.

lt5 is a dual overhead cam engine... dont let the lt part fool you it has nothing to do with an lt1 or lt4
the motor is made buy mercuriser or some boat manufacturer.
nothing is compatible...

oh man i feel dumb, i totally forgot it was dual overhead cam, sorry brain fart, but i did hear they were badass
also, is it worth converting to lt4? i've heard ported lt1 heads and a nice came for the same money will gain more power.

LT1 and LT5 = completely different animals. You'd probably do better with a package from Lloyd Elliott (www.eportworks.com). I haven't had him do my work yet, but his offerings seem to be the best bang for the buck and others on this site have recommended his services.

Does anyone actually know who built the motors? Kinda curious. They are fast, but not as badass as you would think. There is a guy here in town with 2 ZR1 vettes (one has just over 100 miles!!!!!!), the other he street races. A guy with a stock ls1 with catback beat him by about 2 cars.

Mercury Marine built the LT5. It was designed by Lotus. 500HP from an LT5 is cake, and the ZR1 vette (what the lt5 was in) still holds the 24hr endurance record at something like 188mph AVERAGE. ![Icon Eek](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies2/icon_eek.gif)

ZR1 corvettes are probably one of my all time favorite vehicles. As others already mentioned, the LT5 was designed by Lotus and manufactured by Mercury Marine, IIRC. The motor comes stock with a little over 400 hp, but they're extremely easy to get horrid amounts of power out of. The injection manifold is extremely unique, as it looks much like a TPI plenum on steroids...

Lingenfelter used to have a package for the LT5 that made 600hp and revved to like 8k or so through the stock exhaust/cats and was emissions legal. The price was probably very, very, ugly though.

Sorry man, im not calling your story BS, but I find that EXTREMELY hard to beleive...I think I can chime in on this considering I own a ZR1. The only way that could be possible is if the vette had some serious traction problems off the line (or didnt have the secondary set of fuel injectors turned on
