Default Head/cam Pkg Ai Or Le

I just bought a 96 T/A A4 the only mod is a cai.It will be full bolt on soon. My question is which is the better deal? I want to run high 11s low 12s with a 3.23, and still keep it streetable.I've heard tons of good stuff about le2, but not much about ai street/strip.Is anyone running one of these setups? How do they perform?

You really have a long ways to go and need to rethink the 3.23s. A stock Caprice at the local track here is 15.5 seconds a mild cam swap got me low 15s then I did a stall and managed 14.1, then gears and better CAI than I had and got 13.9 in summer heat, more recently did headers 13.2 with a 4300lbs car. The cam did nothing on it's own it needed the gears/tc/headers. I have 2800/3.42 and it is great in a daily driver. Step back and do your reading while you learn and decide which boltons to do. I am confident I will get a 12 second slip this year even if it means having to pull the belt and seats and ice the intake I am going to try it without that stuff first though.

Hi AGAIN Dwayne!!!!! as for the LE and AI packages it is in all what you are going to do. The LE2 package is great. I have it in my 96 Impala SS. Love it. But AI also has great packages too. A friend with a 95 Z 383ci got a AI Trickflow heads and sollid roller cam package and will soon be in the 10's N/A. The car is not streetable though. Really fast and sounds awsome. Like I said its all in what you want out of the car. Good luck.

I'm adding pacestter lt and a true dual 2.5 exhaust, roller rockers, underdrive pulley,a tci3000 converter, and all the common bolt ons very soon. The car will be more street than strip. With all the upgrades im hearing about that are needed for ai the le2 is starting to look better.

You need the same upgrades for LE or Ai heads.

They both come as ported heads with springs, valves retainers, guides and a cam in a box. They can also come with whatever combination of spring or setup you could need for your setup. They are technicly ready to bolt on, but other things are "necessary" to make them run right.

You will need rockers, guide plates, hardened push rods and lifters in some instances. That applys to both places.

Try searching in this forum or on camaroz28.com. These posts have been done 1000 times and you can find every available oppinion and the facts behind them within the posts.

Good luck and make a good decision so you don't end up doing it twice.

I like my AI setup. Went 11.4/119 the first time to the track with lots of problems. Also first time with new suspension and on a different tire for me. Weather was awful that day, misting rain. Plus, I sucked at driving the car.

Needless to say, there was a lot more in it.

I use Lloyd b/c he his stuff works, has good prices, does awesome work and great customer service, you won't find a nicer guy to deal with. It is very possible to run low 12's or even high 11's with the properly setup car and stock 3.23's. It would be easier with a lower gear but my car ran 11.20's@120mph N/A with stock 3.42's in it. I also ran 12.50's@108mph awhile back when I only had a Hotcam kit, shorty headers, 2800 converter, mailorder tune and stock 3.23's in the rear. So add some ported heads, a little bigger cam (LE1), dyno tune and high 11's shouldn't be a problem even with the 3.23's. My car went from 12.00's@113mph to 11.60's@117mph with the only changes being Lloyd Elliott ported my factory heads and Jethot longtubes in place of my shorties with 3.42's in the 10bolt. Goodluck Later Clint

Should have some AI CNC LT1 casting times in a few weeks. Shooting for mid tens N/A. Heads that flow almost 280 cfm with a runner under 200cc should FLY Maybe I'll bolt on a set of LEs after this so that we can do some real world comparisons.

I would love to see that happen, in fact I was kinda hoping you would offer that. Man you are a pioneer, like i said in another thread I love real world data. Tell me though, whats next....perhaps a cam shootout? BRE vs. Joe O? Although I am not so sure your car would be a good demo for that. I mean your car is setup great, but I think your tuner/cam designer may be slightly biased. lol.

In my own opinion dont think 11's cant be possible on 3.23's but if you are looking for a good daily driver that can run those #'s think more of a bigger motor. Such as a 383 or 396..... Stock bottom end cars that run 11's have real big cams which are very friendly on daily driving conditions. I know from experience... Now you can do it on a mild set up with some squeeze.
