Default Please Help!!!!

i am looking at a 92 lt1 with a built 383, the owner says it needs a new throw out bearing, he tells me at idle with the clutch in their is "a sound" when you push the clutch in the sound goes away - is this a bad throw out bearing or bent fork? he says with the clutch in the car does not move foward at all. what would the cost be to fix? also the car has a big cam- non emissions legal what would the aprox cost to swap labor with an emissions legal cam? thankyou very much in advance

Ok, well when my throwout bearing was bad, it also made a noise at idle, and went away when the clutch was depressed. I would do an entire clutch, bc to replace a throwout bearing is mostly a labor cost, and while you're in there, you might as well have some piece of mind by putting in a decent clutch and bleeding the hydraulics. As far as the cam goes, you could pick up a stock cam to swap in for emissions for as cheap as someone is willing to sell it (the seller of the car might still have it infact), and then you would need timing cover gasket, water pump gasket, intake gaskets, motor oil, radiator fluid, and you could just do it yourself. It's only time, but will save you about 500+ depending on the shop in labor to do it. It's really not worth that much. I had a shop quote a friend of mine over 1000 to swap a cam. That's just plain funny. Also, what are the specs on the cam, bc with the right tune you could get by emissions.

Usually, when a thow-out bearing is bad, it will make noise when the pedal is depressed, dis-engaging the transmission, as in coasting. You need to clarify what he means. Clutch "engaged" means the pedal is released, as in the engine is connected to the transmission.

All the stuff about the clutch the guys before me said is true. But u might as well change the slave cylinder to a more heavy duty one like a billet alum. one from Mcleod. the stock one is plastic and sucks for power reasons.(the part that connects to the clutch pedal) Just trust me change all manuel cars have had to change it eventually..... In terms of a cam u can find an emissions legal cam to swap in there just make sure u dont go with a crazy duartion such as a 236 244.The closer the duration the better for passing smog. I recommend a 228 232 on a 114 LSA good torque and great HP u should be about 430 to 450 HP depending on your cars set up right now.....Oh and most important dont forget a good tune.
