400cid sbc for LT1, some questions??
I have a 400 sbc laying around, I was wondering if I could use that block for a LTx setup. just drill steam holes in the LT1/LT4 heads??

You are forgetting the reverse flow cooling the LT1 uses and the pcms need for the optical signal from the opti and are looking to put a weaker block in. Can all this be adressed yes BUT you would probably be a whole lot better off sticking with the LT1 block. Also expect hassles with the damper/acessory drive and flexplate.

I was the one who started that thread.
I don't ever plan on doing it, just an idea of mine.
I guess you could get a custom ground crank to make it possible for the opti and all that to work on it, with a Stealth Ram or the converted LT1 to Gen1 intake from www.lt1intake.com. I guess you would have to give up reverse flowed heads, but it would still be quite interesting.

If not going in an LT1 car then use the 400 block with some good Gen1 heads and go from there. The LT1s biggest advantage over older smallblocks is the heads and injection. The aftermarket makes better heads or the Vortec heads are standard coolant flow copies of the iron LT1 heads which flow more than most of the aluminum LT1 heads and there are a lot of possibilities for injection.
