lt1 owners stock driveshaft
hey guys i was just wondering how many of you have had a problem with the stock driveshaft causing a pretty bad vibration above 100mph
i dont think i have any tires out of balance or anything because its nice and smooth all the way up to about 80-85 mph but after that the vibration gets really bad really quickly and i know the suspension and alignment is good
do you think im on track to suspecting the driveshaft?

The stock driveshaft is a common problem. I bought an Inland Empire aluminium shaft from Jegs. Some use the stock aluminium shaft from an LS1 car. I have seen way too many of those break. Thin wall tubing there. My '98 WS6 is on it's 3rd factory aluminium driveshaft, at 44,000 miles. Keeps tweaking them from high speeds, never broke one. Never put slicks on it, nor raced it. I would buy an aftermarket shaft, if I were you.
Good luck, Ed

Never had a problem with the stock LT1 2.5" driveshaft vibrating and I've run up to 145 MPH. I hear it is hit and miss. Some were well-balanced and other were not. I recently swapped my driveshaft for my wife's, which is a 2.75" steel driveshaft out of her 98 2.73 geared Formula. Damn thing vibrates at 110 MPH. I'm going to have it balanced at a drivetrain shop. If it doesn't work I'm going to try the 2.75" aluminum shaft from the LT1 1LEs. I understand the tubing is thicker, thus stronger, than the LS1 aluminum shafts.
