Exclamation overheating problem...

ok so about a week ago i noticed that my LT1 was running in the red zone of the heat gauge and at some points over the red zone as i was driving it. the weird thing about it was that when i was driving to current work location (which is about 30 mins away) it stayed right in the middle of the heat gauge. i would be going about 75-80 mph on the way there. i parked it and about 10 mins later i got in it to drive it to another area at my work and it would over heat in a matter of seconds. when i pulled over and opened the hood i could hear the coolant in the radiator boiling. i have changed the thermostat, filled my coolant back up to full, checked for leaks, checked to makes sure the fans were running, and tried driving with the heater on and nothing seems to keep it cool. it seems that it only gets hot when i am driving shorts distances at slow speeds (no faster then 40 mph) what the hell is wrong with my car? I am a Marine evacuated from New Orleans and i am on leave right now. i will be getting back to my car on Nov. 27 and will be leaving to go back to new orleans in the morning/ early afternoon of Nov. 28 to drive back. i have to drive 700 miles back to new orleans and i am afriad to drive it cuz i dont want it to over heat when i am out on the roads. what do i need to do to fix it?

Yeah but when are they switching on? Are they switching on at the right time? Also try bleeding the system, there will be two bleeder screws on the hoses on the passenger side. Even if you've never seem them before, you should be able to notice them right off if you look. Open them up with a screwdriver and led the coolant run out.

yeah bleed the system by turning the car on, opening the first bleeder screw (closest to the thermostat) and filling coolant till coolant leaks out, close that screw. then do the same thing with the second screw. Also, if your fans are turning on, they might not be going to the high setting. You might need to replace the waterpump sensor (on the water pump) and potentially the temp sensor on the drivers side head (towards the front). Just as a precaution I would make a manual fan switch, that gives the fans a full 12 volts whenever you click the button on to cool down the motor. That way you could turn it on whenever you want to keep the temp where you want it. This same thing happened to me, it turned out the fans werent going into high speed mode and it cost me a head. pita if you ask me. be careful.

i dont off hand, but its right in front of you when you pop the hood. there are two of them and they are copper, and use a flat blade screwdriver. you really can't miss them.

ok so i found a blow off valve right by the radiator cap. it was like the valve on the tire when you push the valve on the tire it blows out air. when i pushed the valve by the radiator it blew out air and after a few secs it started blowing out coolant. but thats the only one i saw. was that it?

well here goes nothing...i am driving back to new orleans from dallas texas. i hope i can make it there ok. i am taking like 4 bottles of coolant so well see..WISH ME LUCk!!!!!!!!!!
