Default Can someone tell me...

Where the starter is on a 95 T/A? without laughing at me...

Car has been not wanting to start, but always startsup when you turn the key real slow. But after getting gas, it took it a few minutes to start. It has never NOT started, just sometimes takes a bit. I heard smacking the starter might help it out, but I need to know where it is first. And of course, a more permanent fix is always welcome. Thanks guys.

The starter is on the rear, passenger side "corner" of the motor. Is the car turning over and just not starting or youre turning the key and nothing is happening?

So I get to it from underneth the car correct? What does it like like? I know I sound like a moron.

I turn the key, goes in accesory mode and does nothing. No noises or cranks. Eventually, it just fires up like it should. I dont get it.

Could also be a short in the steering column. Like the ignition switch or something.

I had the ignition control module replaced a month or two ago. I was planning on taking it up to the place that did that to have them look at the current issue. I didnt even think of that. Ill have them look at that as well. Thanks.

Yes, you get to the starter from underneath the car. Its basically a large cylinder with a smaller cylinder attached. Heres a drawing showing the starter and its surroundings.

Ok, thats what I thought. I went out awhile ago to look at it. Its dark, cold, and I have no jack so I just stick my tire thumper where I thought it was and knocked around. Try it again in the morning when I actually have to start it.

Here is a pic from the same site for anyone who might need it.

Dont go too crazy with it down there, lol. Hitting it isnt going to fix it. Its normally a last chance effort to get it to start so you can get it home and in the garage where you can change it out. Id start shopping around for another one. Most parts houses are going to only sell remanufactured starters and they can be hit or miss as far as the quality/performance goes. A new AC delco one might be just what the doctor ordered. Look at www.gmpartsdirect.com for some of the best prices and the slowest on parts like that. You can also contact either one of these guys for a little quicker service.

Good luck.
