Ignition experts help an LT1 guy out.
Ok, I don't know how many LT1 guys are in here but I figured this would be a good place to ask. As I discovered today, MSD is offering a complete Opti-Spark replacement with all kinds of fancy improvements. Before I had heard this, I was considering a Delteq Opti-Direct system, which uses brand new coilpacks designed for the V8s in Auroras (and Northstars as well if I remember correctly) instead of the single-coil system in the stock Opti system. The optical sensing unit of the stock distributer is still used, but high-voltage is no longer in the Opti to cause internal cap & rotor wear, internal arc over, and cross firing trouble. The supposed advantage of the multi-coil setup is the longer charging time for a more powerfull spark. There are several companies that manufacture an "improved" opti, now MSD as well, so I'm wondering, is there really any advantage to the multi-coil setup? Because honestly the MSD is more attractive to me due to an easier installation. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
