I have a 97 WS6 LT1 car, i want to put a set of pacesetter long tube headers on, can i do this by slipping them in threw the bottom of the car or no. What do i need to do, and what are the best header gaskets to get and the best header bolts and size will i need.

on an LT1 you have to lift the motor up off of the K member until about it hits the fire wall, and to make it easier i took the 6 bolts out of the k member to let it hang down alittle... with out air tools and no rack should take no more than a weekend (2 days)

I installed KooK's 1-7/8 Headers in my WS6 and it took about 8 hours. I have a lift and air tools, so it should be much longer without them. I must have cycled the car up and down at least 10 times, I would have lost my mind if I didn't have a lift.

Nothing but respect for those guys who do this without a lift......

thats why i said 2 days, cuz i did mine on my garage floor without air tools... so i know the feeling... hooker was slightly harder than the rest due to the triangle bolt flange.. it tends to be a PITA going in, but can be done

I have personally helped on two installs on LT1 cars.... putting a set of Jethots on my '95 and a set of Pacesetters on another '95. We put my LT's in with the tranny out (shift kit and stall time) and put the Pacesetters in with the tranny still in place. I would recommend getting the car as high as possible (some high jackstands work nice) and you shouldn't have a problem. Three of us did the install in about 6 hours (plus removing some "non-vital" equipment....AIR, etc.).

I used Felpro gaskets and the bolts that came with the headers. Just make sure you soak everything down good with WD40, PB Blaster, or another good penetrant. Good Luck!!

I put Pacesetter LTs on my 95 in the garage with just jack and stands. It was quite a bit of work, being my first time doing exhaust. I did not need to unbolt the engine mounts of jack it up. I got one side in from the top and the other in from the bottom. Take off the alternator, starter, steering knuckle, valve covers, and anything else that comes up.

If you can get by without it, I would go without the AIR and EGR hookups next time. The worst part of the install was getting the EGR off and back on around the tranny.

I used FelPro gaskets. Most folks get part # 1406, I think, but I think mine were 1470. These are described as LT1 Header Gaskets on the package. I used ARP stainless 3/4" hex bolts.

I'm in the middle of installing the Pacesetter longtubes on my 96 SS right now. I had to jack the car up pretty high to get the driver's side header in from underneath. I haven't gotten to the passenger side yet(I tweaked my back shoveling snow). I decided to get the fel-pro gaskets and Stage8 locking stainless header bolts and new motor mounts. They give you cheap gaskets and header bolts and you odn't really want to go back and have to do any of it over again so get the good gaskets and header bolts.
