Default Tcs Off????

94 bird formula model. 20K original miles. Just bought it. Has the "TCS OFF" light on... Traction control off? If so is this bad or good? If bad how do I fix... also from the hanes I gleaned that this was tied in some way to the ABS... I don't have an ABS light on... Anyone know what's up? Also the fuel guage doesn't seem to work, jumps around or stays at above full all the time, just depends on what mood its in. Any info would be appreciated Bone stock, only 160 thermostat, and lowered 1" on eibachs... 18'' mille miglias and bfgoodrich g-force TA's... Anyway, this is my first post, or thread... or anything, but reading the other posts you guys know your stuff. Thanks for your help. Also any recommended starting point for go fast goodies to start with.

Mine has a switch by the gear shifter to turn it on and off, seems like it's automatically on when you turn the key on. Might be something wrong with the TCS motor under the hood, could be unplugged, who knows. If I'm not mistaken it reads off the speed sensors and when yer back wheels are turning faster (spinning) than the front the TCS motor kicks on and you can't give it any gas therefore no more spin. Junk in my opinion, I wouldn't worry about it.

As far as the fuel guage, the fuel sending unit could be going bad. I've had a few that read full til the tank was half empty then it would act right.

Thanks man I appreciate it, so in your experience I shouldn't worry about the ABS? And yeah, there isn't any switch inside the car at all, so I am not sure if it even ever had Traction Control, and if the fuel thing is bad or going... how or where do I look to check this out. thanks again for the info... I am a grade A NOOB... LOL<

Dont worry about the ABS and TCS if you never drive on congested highways... I dont know about ya'll but the TCS on my car has saved my *** in the rain and the ABS has saved my *** when Ive had elderly people pull out in front of me while I was doing 60mph.
If you dont drive it on the street, all that stuff is uneccessary. If its a street car you want all that stuff working, if you didnt want it, dont buy a newer car and stick to some older turdgen that doesnt come with such safety features.

Ummm, cool...it is a street car, its my daily driver in fact. Does anyone know if some of the vehicles came without TCS from the factory? I don't have any switches... is there anyway to find out? Also, how to test to see if the ABS is either on or working? Run it to 80...slam on the brakes... see if they lock?... LOL, sounds like fun!

I wouldn't worry about it. The 94-95 cars are a bit different than the 96-97 with the TCS and ABS. I pulled my TCS off, just got non TCS throttle and cruise cables from the dealer. No ABS problems there. Had a TCS OFF light on and had that programed off.

Whops! I probably should have read further. If you don't have a switch, and there isn't a black box on the drivers side valve cover, you do not have TCS. All of the clusters are equiped with the light, however.
