Default Carb intake

Has anyone put a regular carb. intake on their LT1? I know GM performance parts make one specificly for LT1's, but if a man wanted to run a regular dist. and plug off the water jackets in the intake, would one physically bolt up and line up (close enough) to work?

I've done some single plane conversions for running carbs on LT1 heads, they work really well for drag guys.

The bolt pattern is different is the main issue.

I use a GMPP carbed intake on my setup. As Bret mentioned, the bolt pattern is different and of course, their are no water jackets. It's apple and oranges with a regular intake. I also use a Mallory billet distributor and I think the setup is nice, plain simple and works well. Plus, you would be missing that little bowtie that is embossed on the front of the manifold where the water neck usually is on a regular intake.

Thanks for the info.....So, would it be possible just to have the bolt holes machined to line up or would it be better just to weld up the existing holes and make your own?

You have to weld them up because some of them overlap and they are at different angles.

I think running a ignition box is really the only option. I think once you run a carb setup and do away with the PCM it wouldn't really have any need to have a crank trigger to run. The 92-95 LT1s didn't have one to start with.

Bret (SStrokerAce) could tell you more about it but, he is sending me my converted Super Vic that is actually EFI now (but could be used as a carb setup as well. IF anyone is interested PM me, Thanks
Soon CONVERTED Car setup's are gonna start being the NORM on high HP LTX cars. They are alot Cheaper than custom sheet metal intakes and, and work prolly just as good for the most part.
30-50 more HP and 40-50 more Ftlbs of Torque Throughout the whole RPM range is gonna make something a hella a lot faster.

does anyone know for sure what single plain matches to the ports of LT1 heads? not LT4. i'm not worried about the bolt pattern, that is easy to fix with a die grinder. i talked to edlebrock and they said they have nothing that would work without alot of porting and welding work. i run LT1 heads and need a single plain

The bolt pattern stuff can't just be done with a die grinder. The intake bolts on a LT1 are not perpendicular to the intake flange so you have to machine a flat so the bolts will be able to seal.

How badly would the GMPP LT1 carb intake affect daily drivability?

I compared my dyno numbers to another car with a very similiar set up as mine (actually the other car has a 396 compared to my car's 388). My engine actually made 80 more rhwp all throughout the rpm range than the other car with a ported LT1 intake manifold. I'd say that's a pretty big difference.

Both cars have FLP extreme duty T-566 speeds.
Both cars have McLeod twin disk clutches
Both cars have F1s (22 psi).
My car has a 4.11 9 inch/the other car has a 4.11 12 bolt
