I've heard it only runs for a few seconds at startup. I took mine out rather than fix it. The car runs fine and I have enough room to change the plugs from the top now.

If you have emissions testing, I'd get it fixed though.

I dont think you will see a 6hp gain from it, My main reason for removing the system was loosing my cats w/ my non emissions headers...plus it cleans up the engine alot

smog pump really is there to help heat up the cat. the impalla ss had a recall that actually removed the smog pump, not sure why they didnt do that on the f-body.

are you getting an ses light?

yeah the check engine light is on, and the GM dealer told me thats what is seting the SES light off....they said i need a new one, should i just remove the damn thing instead and save me money? If there was a recall on the impala, why not the f-body...and like i said, my friends dad removed the smog pump on his vette...so should i just remove it instead of spending like 300$ on a new one?

well ill prorbably remove it,cause isnt it only for emissions and cleaner air and polution reasons...? I'm pretty sure its illegal to not have one or if you dont have one and get emission tested you will fial the emissions test because of not having it...but im not totaly sure on what the function of the smog pump is? Can anyone tell me?

not having it isnt going to make you fail emissions, its only used when the car is cold and at idle/low rpm. i guess you can fail the visual inspection, but i dout they even know where its suppose to be, let alone able to see it.

its purpose is to aid in heating the cat

not going to hurt the engine at all... the catalitic converter just doesnt work well till they are warm, so if its bad for anything its the enviroment... but thats just till it gets up to working temp witch it can still do without an air pump.
