LT1 headers problem

LT1 headers problem I got a problem, I have just put in my pacesetter headers on my 95 LT 1 but one side is hitting the Steering Shaft Linkage. And for that one little pace I've tried moving it down a little and it give me room but not as much as I hoped. And I just want to know if anyone sell a extended peace to make room for the headers.

What part of the steering shaft linkage is hitting? I can see that the upper bolt comes close and the flange parts of the rag joint on the lower half of the steering linkage comes real close but my doesn't hit. I replaced my motor mounts when I put the headers in so that may have made a difference. You might be able to bend those flanges in on the rag joint if that's your problem. If it's the upper bolt then try loosening the lower bolt and pulling the linkage back off the rack and pinion a little bit to give some extra clearance.

The 82-02 F-body steering column is built with a huge variance in assembly angles. You can change the angle where it goes through the firewall by loosening the three bolts behind the brake pedal and moving it around a little. It doesn't move a lot, but may be enough to fix your problem. It has worked for some cars with similar issues.
Mine too rubbed. But It was the bolt holding the slip joint to the shaft that hit... I loosened it up and pushed it out away from the firewall as far as I could. That solved my problem completely. Then the motor mount went bad and it started touching again.
If I were you, I'd take a real good look at your motor mounts. I noticed mine went bad because the driver side header started hitting the floorboard.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but it's the only one I could find that addressed this issue. I have MAC midlength headers. There was some type of plastic or vinyl shroud around the base of my steering shaft where it comes out of the firewall. The header was contacting it and making the car smell like burning plastic and even smoke under the hood occassionally. So I just figured this out a couple days ago and pulled the shroud off. Has anyone else dealt with this? What the hell is a plastic shroud doing there anyway? There isn't much road debris flying that far up into the engine bay is there? If it's a heatshield I can't understand why they'd make it out of plastic. Should I just leave it off? It's melted to **** anyway.

The shroud is used to protect the rag joint from debris. Honestly it's useless. I left it off after my pacesetter LT install and it clears perfectly. Don't worry about removing it.
