The 97 will work with all LT1 cars. You cannot use an LS1 cluster due to the fact that alot of the parameters were changed. But all LT1 cars will work with a cluster out of a 1997. Why, do you have different information?

If you own an LT1, get the 97 cluster. It is identical to the LS1 models in looks, and will work fine for you. I know they're hard to come by, but keep searching i found one on eBay.
the cluster swap for you is more involved,94-97 are direct however the 93s require h2o sending unit to be updated, the tach signal is different so it will not function till changed!just a heads up
Was talking about the 98 cluster
Thanks for all of your help with that, i did find one on ebay for an absolutly ridiculoulsy low price, i felt almost bad taking it for so low. Everything works fine, and that Co. did a great job, just replaced the LCD screen. Thanks, i appreciated that! the cluster swap for you is more involved,94-97 are direct however the 93s require h2o sending unit to be updated, the tach signal is different so it will not function till changed!just a heads up

As for the tach, if you ARE NOT running an aftermarked ignition (such as MSD, Accel, ect) then you need to REMOVE the tach filter, which is a little black box with two white and one black line taped to the wiring harness right next to the coil. Just cut the box off and splice the white wires together. If you ARE running an aftermarket ignition, your tach will function fine. Trust me on that.
Everything else works as advertised with exception to the seat belt light (present for 96 and lower) and the TCS OFF light will remain off if you're a non-TCS car. Simple fix is to use a piece of black cloth and plug the honeycomb holes in the inside of the cluster for those respective lights.
