Whatcha Think?
Okay guys I found a 93 Camaro. Its red with Ttops and An M6. It has 117,000 miles and has just been repainted. Car runs strong and the only thing it need is a tie rod end and the transmission need work. He said it pops out of third and he had it estimated for 800 dollars. $3000 do you guys think its a good deal.
Nope. Not worth it. If the shift fork is bent, I would "question" if it is abused. At 117,000 miles, you don't know how it has been driven. Whats the reason the owner is selling it? Why was it repainted? Accident? Rust? Where was it done ($100 Maaco deal?). Has the opti, clutch, sparkplugs, waterpump, ect. been replaced yet? Unless you are ready to pay for addtional repairs in the upcoming miles, I wouldn't bother.

There was a police standoff outside his house and inside and his car "got involved." So the insurance is paying to have a bunch of the panels repainted. I will know which ones when i Get his reply. No accident and No rust.
Im not too worried about the miles on the engine because if it goes that just gives me a chance to replace the rotating assembly with forged parts and some lower compression pistons. Something Ill be doing anyways.

Ive always been told outside of the leaky manifold and not exactly waterprook optispark the LT1s where very reliable and long lived.

Sounds like a killer deal. Its a 93 and I have a soft spot in my hearts for that year. Granted they are the slowest 4th gen, but hey, its still the first one... My fav second only to a black on black 97ss

Anyway, if I were you I would hold off on the car, I think I might even know the car your talking about... a car I once seen on cardomain, belonging to a guy with the user name BEGONEFISHIN, owned a Red 93 Z28 that was in a police something or other.
The prices of LT1 style cars are slowly declining, but I would try to jump on one during the winter months, before they are being marked up for summertime, and people looking for something a little flashy for the summer heat. I don't see why you can't buy a 93-97 Z28 with less than 100k miles, for 4-5k, maybe even cheaper. I bought mine with 88k for $5500, with some minor flaws, but nothing major. And if I end up selling it to go LS1 sometime, I would probably only ask 4-4.5, even with the mods I've done, the condition of the car, the mileage, and all that. Good luck with your search, keep checking the forums and Autotrader of course

Chill dude, you need to breath in, and exhale a few times....
First of all, 93-95's are single cat cars, which is worse than the cali95's-97's. I have also heard otherthings about the egr system or air system, somthing like that. But they do have a closer ratio six speed which is sweet.
So I would like you to get off my nutz.

some of the fastest stock lt1's i've ever seen were 93's. a friend of mines 93 formula ran an 8.52@80 in the 8th with nothing more than et streets and the air filter removed. a4 car with stock 3.23 gears. equivelent to some 13.2-13.3's. another friends 93z went 8.86@78 with 2.73 auto and cooper cobra radials. my car also ran 8.9@ 78 stock 3.23 a4 t/a in the heat. ive owned two 94s and a 95 and neither were faster than my 93.
[QUOTE=Renegade]Saying they are the slowest of all 4th gens, is like saying Red Corvettes are faster than Black Corvettes.

Okay first of all that is a hyperbole, that is nothing at all like what he said. from 93-94 there where mechanical changes made to the car. There is no mechanical difference between two differently colored cars.. I happen to agree with him about them being the slowest, because the fastest LT1s I have ever seen run where 97s and 96s, but i dont care. I mean any LT1 F-body will beat the hell outof about 90% of the cars on the road.
This car will be heavily modded and i just figured there was no reason to pay more for a car that is going to be modded. I mean if i was an artist I wouldnt pay more for one canvas just because it was newer if it was basically the same thing and can be made into the same thing.

trying to get back on track.
it's tough to say without more knowledge - pictures, etc.
i bought a 1992 corvette that wouldn't shift out of second gear for $4000
had about the same mileage as your 93 Fbody.
it cost me $1800 including labor to remove and reinstall rebuilt transmission with upgraded slutches and shift kit - AND a 3 year 36K mile warranty!
so i'm into it for $6K (well just a little big more if you count other misc stuff and the couple upgrades im currently working on)
so think of it logically - will the car be "worth" as much as you will be putting into it as soon as it's finished? meaning, could you sell it for that amount the day you drive it back from the repair shop (or perform the repairs yourself) if not, chances are good that it's not as good of a deal as you think.
i like the guy that says offer $2000 - and see what happens!

Ok, Ok... I may have over-reacted a little bit... but it just pisses Me off when people try to bash 93's, I guess us 93 guys will just enjoy our cars, and keep proving people that they are no worse than other LT1's, of course the 96-97 cars are going to be a little faster from the factory, but overall, the 93's, 94's, 95's are pretty much even besides the mechanical changes, which didn't improve times or anything.
When I was comparing the colors of cars, I was just being sarcastic, and saying that he was crazy for thinking 93's are the slowest year, when evidence shows that is untrue. I wasn't actually trying to prove a point with it, just being a smartass.
Anyway, let's stay on topic... wait for another car, like I previously said.

Dude, my second fav year is 93... Its not like im bashing them. But if your gonna keep teh car stock, a 96-97 would be one of the best, but if your gonna do anything to it, its all game.

hahah I hope theres no bulletholes in the block!
