Exclamation Oil Pressure???

Ok, so i got a 93 lt1 with a 152K on the odo. Still pulls very hard and nothing wrong with it at all. About the middle of last week i started noticing that my oil pressure was really whack. Before I would usually chill in stop/go traffic at 40psi. and cruising pressure of 50. Now after last week in stop/go traffic it sometimes might get extremely close to 20 psi. and i would bevery lucky to hit 50 while cruising. but mostly chills at the 40 range cruising. Also when i mash it, pressure drops crazy low like damn close to 20 . but before it would climb when i did that. I'm thinking, oil pump, oil pressure sender, oil pressure switch, or the oil level sensor on the pan. Or the gauge itself is bad all a sudden. Any suggestions on this beast?

I'd verify actual pressure with a mechanical guage first before jumping to conclusions. The pressure sender could be faulty.

I bet its the OPSU (oil pressure sending unit) mine did that for a while then i got that replaced. I broke mine too, and had to drive it for a week and the gauge was all the way maxxed out.

I do believe on the 93s it's right above the oil filter in the block correct?

Yea its a bitch to get to if you have LTs. The cable coming off the unit is a freaking foot long. I hear you can relocate the unit to the back of the intake manifold somewere, or that might be the EGR? Dunno

My oil pressure reads low too. I think it a common problem with the later F-body cars.

Question

ok, so if i'm to buy a mechanical gauge is there anything in particular that i would need to hook it up. or is there already provisions for it some where that i dont know about. also couldn't i have a scanner that was meant for my odb-I system, hook it up and read all the different pressure's of the system (oil, fuel, coolant temp, etc)??

Well, pressure is normal if its close to 20 psi at a stop with engine at normal operating temperature, but it should climb with acceleration. Be worried when it won't climb up..... Mine reads very high when engine cold(75-80psi), cruising at 45-55mph sits a 40-55psi. When stopped at a light sits about 20-22psi.

i had a t/a with low oil psi. it read about 10-15 at idle and reved 25-30. changed the oil psi sensor above the oil filter and fixed the problem. what type oil you running? changing to a thicker oil can give you more oil psi.

well i use mobil 1 clean 5000, 10w-40 syn. with that i also use lucas oil stabilizer. before the 10w-40 i used 10-30 mobil 1 syn also with the lucas and had no problems at all. so i figured i would upgrade to the 40 because the engine was getting old. i didn't noticed any probs using the 40 + the stabilizer until a wk 1/2 ago. when i would use the 30w my norm engine psi for cold was 60, crusing was 50, idle no lower than 40. same with the 40w as well. until last week. the oil is only about 1500 miles old. any thoughts? also i should mention that i started using the stabilizer because i was only at 40psi cruising way back in the day. and i didn't want it to be like that and all.
