I wouldn't run a CC306 at all. It's outdated technology and there are plenty of cams out there just as radical with much better ramp rates..... Look into the Xtreme Energy series from Comp Cams...

They have a 236/242 .556/.576 cam that is very similar to the CC306's specs... From what i remember the cc306 is 230/244 and .544/.576 with 1.6 rockers..... these cams are very similar...... but the xtreme is much newer technology.

But to answer your original question yes you can run that type of cam with a stock converter but it ain't gonna be as fast as if it was outfitted with a good converter.... you're gonna want RPM with either of those cams and a stock converter is going to bog you down initially.... Instead of flashing into the powerband for that cam...

I'm not even going to say it's not recommended. I'll just say no it's not possible. It won't really pull until 3k, most guys run a 3200+ stall.

It is not going to work well with a stock stall, if it even works at all. But to say the CC306 is not a good cam is B.S. Outlaw Z, I can run all over your 383 with my 355" LT1 and it has that old outdated 306 in it. 11.15@121mph N/A untuned, it will run 10's on motor in the next month or so once I am finished tuning the PCM but like it sits it ran 9.83@136mph with 150HP NX so what does your car run? The CC306 is old tech but it works really well when setup right. I ran 10.17@134mph (200HP NX) with the stock LT1 heads (fully ported) on drag radials last year with the same old cam too. My car is still 100% streetcar (3,450lbs with 3.50 gears) that is driven weekly and doesn't even have a rollbar. LMK Later Clint

It won't idle until you get a tune, it will probably bog down like crazy from a stop in normal traffic, and will cause the EGR valve to function a lot(if it's removed, you'll have alot of knock/pinging).

Don't do it without a stall and 3.73+ gears.

The CC306 is a great cam, thats what im running on my 355. I have a 2600 stall and it works great with the cam, but im looking to go to a 3600 stall in about a month or so. gears are a must

A stall is the best thing you can do to an auto, easy .5 off your times. Once I got a 3200 in my bolt on car, its night and day over stock

First off I never said the CC306 is not a good cam, i said it's outdated technology which it is. Ask Comp Cams and they'll tell you the same thing..... But since you obviously know so much why aren't you grinding cams????

Secondly my OLD motor was a 355 with the 236/242 xtreme energy ran 10.40@131 on a 150 shot...... My new 383 that will be done in two weeks is setup to run 8's on 2 stages.. With AFR 227's, a single plane manifold, solid roller with over .700 lift, shaft rockers, etc. I personally guarantee it is way more than your streetcar will be able to handle.

So for you to say you can run ALL OVER my 383 is a bunch of BS. Bring your streetcar up to california once my car is finished.... Cause I've got a grand that says you can't drive around my 383. At least not running 9.83's it won't..... You DON'T KNOW ME for one, so next time you feel like flaming someone make sure you have your facts straight. You car runs hard with a CC306. Please show me where I said it wasn't a good cam cause I'm still looking.... I said I wouldn't run one now with the other viable options on the market right now and that's my business and perogative.... if the 306 is working for you good for you....

If you want to run mid 11's NA you're probably gonna need at least the 236/242 xtreme energy cam that I had or sumthing bigger.... It's very similar to the 306 (230/244) and lift on the xtreme cam is a bit more (.556/.576) vs (.544/.576)... It's a very strong cam with a sick powerband. Would I say it's DD streetable??? Probably not. I mean i drove it back and forth to work and stuff but not everyday. It lopes like a mothaf**(A.....

But it was enough to run 11.60@119 on the motor and dynoed 422RWHP with a 355 ci LT1, stage ii heads, ported manifold, srp pistons, eagle rods, 58mm throttle body, hooker lt's and your usual assortment of bolt ons....
