Question Automatic help needed (4L60E)

Helped my buddy drop in his new LT1 block in a 95 Camaro with a 4L60E auto.

1) Were not sure how to disengage Park at this stage to remove the cover/console and unbolt the weather seal or whatever other linkage, etc is under the console to free up the tranny. Linkage is disconnected still won't shift into neutral, tranny mount is free, supported with a floor jack.
* Normally he would turn the key to on, push the disengage on the shifter and **** (does the battery have to be hooked up at this stage with any wiring relative to the starter or Park/Neutral Safety Switch? It just occured to me that maybe he didn't have his foot on the brake, some cars have that feature not sure if a 95 auto does.

2) Is the correct tooth count/flywheel 153? He bought a new SFI 168 tooth wheel and the starter won't bolt up, no room the wheel is too big. He's going to re-order but I told him I'd drop in here and post the inquires.

Appreciate any help, thanks.
Brett

my 94 you have to put your foot on the brake to take it out of park. Not really sure about the battery having to be hooked up or not.

yes the battery needs to be connected to shift the tranny. There is a electrical solenoid that the brake releases to shift the car.I believe that is located under the console on are cars if i remember right.
