i was wondering how narly are 4:10s with a 4l60E. the car is an 95 T/A vert so it is pretty heavy but i was wondering about the 4:10 cause i wont be doing all that much highway driving plus it would help it move around a little quicker.any feedback would really help in the decision

My friend has 4.10s in his a4 and he is pretty happy with them. Most people are going to tell you 3.73s are the highest you want to go. It all depends on your use though. Is it a DD, does it see the track, do you have any more mods, are you planning on doing any future mods, etc.

The cruise rpm will suck with 4.10s but if it isn't a dd and/or doesn't see highway miles, no reason not to go with them.

Using drive for a few days instead of OD will give you a good idea of wether you find the cruise rpm increase acceptable. For most daily A4 cars 3.73s are a good choice but some guys are ahppy with the 4.10s. Now with a T56 4.10s are the natural choice that .50 OD soaks them right up and makes 6th gear actually usable.

I've got 4.10s and A3(TH350). I don't even use the radio while driving. LOL It all depends on what you are using the car for.

General rule is that rear gear and tq converter selection is determined LAST. Your valve train requirements for optimal set may dictate what rear gear you run.

Anything from a 3.42-3.73 should be more than fine. 4.10 in my own opinion of a street driven car with some track use is a little too much.

i have 3;73 in my 96 t/a and it pulls good and hard i can get 13 seconds at the track all day you need to think about what you will be doing with it. i have thought about going to a ford 9 inch so i can have a pick of gear ratios by swapping out the third member. so think long and hard before you buy

I would be that friend. Im very happy with my choice in gearing. I drive my car everday and i see as much track time as i can from April to October. If you do decide to got 4.10s definatly get some light wheels and sticky tires.

The car is getting a fresh rebuild since it spun a rod bearing due to lack of oil and is a virgin car.Once the new motor goes in it will not be used as a DD but will be driven on the highway at least 2 times a week with a round trip of 30 miles. The shortblock is gonna be relativley stock save for some forged pistons and a cc305 cam,the heads are gonna be stock aluminum with 1.6 roller rockers ported and polished with a port matched intake with supporting fuel system and every once in a while a 150 shot of nitrous.Oh and the normal bolt on will be included (CAI,tb,headers, catback).Mostly though it will be to cruise on the weekends and take to the track some.Any feedback on what you all think of my setup would be appreciated.
thanks Chris

Ive got 3.73s in my A4 and i love em compared to my old 3.23s. The only problem i found was that u go through 1st and 2nd so fast that by the time ur in 3rd it really boggs. So i just shift at about 6 grand now manually with my auto tranny cause i have a kit that got rid of the auto shift. I find that these gears are alot better when u shift higher with a stock motor. Just my thoughts ;]

When I had the 4.10's in the 94 after switching the T56 out for a 700R4 I made 1 pass with them on 275/40-17 street tires. I ran out of gear about 9-1000 feet down the track on motor. On 26" tires you are looking at approx 115mph max. I would go with 3.73's on 26" tires with your setup. Cam and spray should get you high teen mph.
