Default fuel pump trap door and other ?s

After messing around driving with the car in different RPMs, I have found that with the high capacity racing fuel pump, taking it to WOT at anything less than 2500, with the exception of 1st gear, will cause the car to choke and back fire like crazy, so until i get the new fuel injectors put in and the rest of the crap that I have been putting off all these months, I am considering throwing the stock fuel pump that I still have in there, so I was looking for a write up on the trap door, and found some for 99+, but it is mentioned that 98 and below, the hole needs to be cut further back. Have any of you done this mod? If so, any advice is appreciated as far as where to cut.

ALSO, this backfiring crap didnt start until a few weeks ago, and I haven't changed the fuel filter since.....September, would changing the fuel filter fix my problem so I can take it back to WOT without it doing this? or is it some other problem? Basically what I'm asking all in all is should I change back to the stock pump? Or would something like changing the fuel filter fix the issue for now? Thanks

I've done it in a thirdgen and I will never, ever do it that way again. It's a total bitch to get the lines out without cutting a HUGE hole. It's faster just to do it right. I believe LT1 cars are the same way.
