What ever that means ^

I forgot all about the mains.. Good point.

But why do so many guys go to Iron blocks when running lots of power? I haven't read into FI a lot but it seems that I've heard a lot about them going to Iron blocks?

Speaking as an LT1 owner, there's no excuse at this point if your budget is at or near $10K or above NOT to buy an LS1 car. The LT1's were great for their day but its like trying to swim upstream when its so much easier to make big power with the LS1. Hell we're having this exact debate at LS1LT1.com right now with a newb that is quoting factory rated HP and saying the LS1 is the LT1's "little brother", LOL Here's the thread.... http://www.ls1lt1.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3032

It means you said something completely wrong and got called out on it. Just because a block is iron does not mean that it's automatically stronger than an aluminum block. There's a lot more to it than just the material used.

i would like an ls1 but they are out of my price range- so i got some questions about the lt1

1.)How much horsepower can a stock LT1 block handle?
2.)What is there stock 1/4 mile time
3.)Do they have a 4l60e if its an a/t what do they have if its a m/t
4.)Can they handle some abuse?
5.)Are they easily upgraded
There are guys running ~900hp on stock bottom end with the 4.6L block.

Um, no. Sorry, but no stock bottom end 2v 4.6 will handle that power.

Is it just me or do these LS1 v. LT1 threads have like 9 lives? They just won't die.

Because look at what most of these guys are doing with those iron vs aluminum blocks. They're getting iron blocks for cheaper more than anything else, and then its just as easy to bore out and make a larger engine. The strength is a moot point being its proven that LS1s can handle some abuse.

But to 90-95% of the street driving public, its a moot point. The block strength wont ever be noticed. Its more of a cost factor than anything else in my eyes.

Yeah...Hell, look at the 302W blocks from Ford... Iron blocks, and people are splitting them in half with 400hp

OK, you show me a 2v 4.6 that's putting 750hp+ to the ground with the stock bottom end then i'll believe you. Until then,

uhh... most racecars DONT run cast iron blocks. C6R? S7? Enzo? Porsche GT? F1? M3? M5?

Not unless its for budget reasons or they are making INSANE power. Maybe something that needs to support the pull of a blower that takes 400hp to turn alone(top fuel).
Actually, supercharged cars are the only cast-iron blocks I can think of except maybe the mercedes V12?

What racecars do you know of that run cast iron blocks that aren't required to by the rulebook?

I had a friend that did 650...

...twice. It cracked the block on the dyno.

my DD before this was a blown 2v. I made a little over 400 to the tires, then had it de-tuned to 390. I'd say for average thats about as much as you are going to make safely stock bottom end w/o ported heads/cams/intake.
