LT1 vs. LS1
i know that the ls1 makes more power but i am looking to sell the blazer and spray my next car- i have found some low mileage 4.6L mustang GT's but i found out that the stock motor can only handle 400hp
i would like an ls1 but they are out of my price range- so i got some questions about the lt1
1.)How much horsepower can a stock LT1 block handle?
2.)What is there stock 1/4 mile time
3.)Do they have a 4l60e if its an a/t what do they have if its a m/t
4.)Can they handle some abuse?
5.)Are they easily upgraded

A lot more than the stock ls1 block, A LOT, Iron vs. Allum
2.)What is there stock 1/4 mile time
14 flat with a 2 sec or so sixty, with a set of DR's, a good launch, you can see 13.8's or better.
3.)Do they have a 4l60e if its an a/t what do they have if its a m/t
The 93's had a 4l60, the 94-97 had the 4l60-e, the manual tranny is at t-56, cable clutch vs hydrolic, Borg Warner I believe..
4.)Can they handle some abuse?
Yes.
5.)Are they easily upgraded
Sure.

Comparing the LT1 block to the LS1, you've also got to keep in mind the 2-bolt F-body LT1 main (Vette was a 4-bolt) vs. the 6-bolt of the LS1. I don't think the LT1 block is A LOT stronger like Spuds is saying.

Why is block strength even an issue? how much damn power are you planning to make?
I wouldn't even worry about the 4bolt main vs 6. 4 bolt main is plenty. You'll go through rods/pistons etc before the 2 bolt even becomes a problem. When you rebuild, going to 4 bolt is cheap.
