Default SS Hood?

I found an SS hood and the intake for sale. The hood is black fiberglass I believe. Anyway, he is asking $400 for everything. I thought that price was a little high, what do you guys think? Also, how much of a gain will I get with the SS hood and intake over a CAI? (if anything) I'm going more for the look, not so much the power.

Also, will I have to worry about rain getting into the intake? Has this ever happened to anyone?

Does anyone have a pic of a white LT1 Z28 with a black SS hood on it?

Then just buy the hood, and keep the CAI on it. I would have to see conditions of the hood. Here is a pic of a black ZL1 with a kind of off white grey color. I know it's not an LT1...just thought I would share.

Honestly...The WS6 ram air on the Trans Ams is a better design than the SS...I would keep the CAI, and get the hood..The best of both worlds.

I would just get the hood, but he is selling them together. So, I would be spending all that money on just the hood. I just want to make sure this is a good deal and I won't have problems with sucking up water.

I'm just curious what the SS hoods look like on the LT1's. What does everyone think? Pictures are welcome.

my car is an LT-1 SS and i think the SS hood looks great, i run the slp ram air intake and i dont have any problem with water and besides a CAI is just as good if not slightly better and doesnt make use of the scoop so water wouldent be a problem even if a minimal amount of water does come through, you can always try and sell the SS intake afterwards

A GM hood from the dealer would set you back at least $750-$800...

So, do you guys honestly think my Moroso CAI is actually better performance wise? If so, I might just keep that and sell the intake. I would think the ram air would be better, since the air has to travel a lot less...

I would like to know this as well! I have an SS and have heard that the moroso "type" CAI out perform the factory RAM AIR induction. how is this so? sense you loose the RAM AIR effect?

Also I agree with the price that was quoted the ss hood from the dealer retails for about $800 and the CAI part that bolts to the manifold is 2 or $300

The sad truth is that you won't even get a "ram air effect" until triple digit speeds are reached.

The Morosso CAI like most others provides better air induction over the SS style hood due to the bends, theres a big writeup in GM HighTech where they tested the ram air hoods out vs cai. The WS6 hood was ok (nothing super spectacular like some think) was just a little better than the CAI setups which in turn were a little better than an SS hood setup.

So, do you guys think I should just get the hood and keep my moroso CAI on? Also, how do you think a black SS hood will look on a white Z28 with a black top? I can't decide if I want to paint the hood white or not. I wish I could see some pictures, but I can't find any.

I'm going to make my decision today. Either the black SS hood, or an Xbox360, lol.

Someone also told me they got 9Rwhp with a ram air setup over a CAI...(on the dyno)

It seems like the air travels a lot less with the SS style. It's confusing to me how an SS style isn't as good, but I believe it.

Air is a fluid. Fluids flow better with less restrictions. A bend is a restriction, and the SS airbox has tighter bends than a CAI. If you get the hood, I would say to keep the CAI and sell the SS airbox.

...oh, and paint the hood. In my opinion, it will look "unfinished" if you leave it black.

I have an Xbox 360.

I thought about selling mine and all the games for a torque converter. I don't have much time for video games lately. But if I were you and had to choose 1 thing, it would be the 360. It seems a little more cost effective *depends on the accesories and games you get*. I paid about 900 for all the things I have.

I'd sell mine, which is in perfect condition...but I'll most likely miss it.

Can anyone take that picture and paint the car white? I don't have any software to do that, but if someone has the time it will really help out. The black looks really good though.

Thank for the help.

I have a white 96 SS. I'll post some pictures tonight, I can't do it here from work. I just had my SS wheels painted white too and it looks great. I love the 17x11 with 315/35/17 tires on the back. I just need to get the center cap SS decals. The SS airbox is nice because it pulls cooler outside air into the engine. But most aftermarket CAI will flow a little better because the SS airbox has 3 sharp turns it needs to make. You could sell the SS airbox setup for $150-200 on Ebay easily.
