Default biggest cam???

whats the biggest cam i could get into a LT1 with ported and polished stock heads and intake with the heads cut for 2 inch vavles... once i find out on the cam im gonna see what they recommend for the vavletrain.... is there any work i can have done on the stock heads to get a bigger cam in there or is even worth it if not ill just get the heads done and go with the best cam i can get and wait until i have more money to sink into AFR heads and such... this is going to be high compression N2O motor so flat top pistons... i was originally going to go 383 stroker with a blower but my motor crapped out a lot sooner than i was expecting
i have about 2700-3400 to spend

well i talked to comp and this is what they recommended
306 cam with the beehive vavle springs, with 2.02 intake vavles and 1.6 exhuast valves, Comp Cams "R" Hydraulic Roller Lifters, new timing kit, this is all from comp.... comp recommended using the 1417-16 rockers that are 1.52 rockers... i thought the 1.6's would be better any reason why he would recommend the 1.52's instead

My recommendation is going to be for you to get the heads flowed and give the flow numbers to a cam designer so they spec out a custom cam for you. You will never get an off the shelf cam that works as well with your setup as a custom cam, plus they aren't too much more. I got mine from Bret Bauer, I think he goes by Sstroker Ace on here.

uhh..if your going to go with a CC306....just go with the GM847...thats what I did..I originally had a 306 but was talked out of it by a bunch of people. The gm847 with beehives.(STOCK LIFTERS..if they are still in good condition) with CC promag 1.6 rockers with 7/16th studs. And for your heads...LE is the man for the job..he does GREAT work.

I don't recall exactly, but I know the difference was less than $100.

ok well with all of this i talked to Lloyd Eliot and i may get a LE2-3 package with the matching cam... plus the forged internals.... is there anything i should get done to the intake or just leave it as it is... i will get the 58mm TB, fuel pump and injectors....

If you get the 58mm tb you will need to have the intake opened up to match it, but other than that I have never heard of people getting major gains on an LT1 by porting the intake. I have also never heard of any real gains from the 58mm tb over the 52mm, just more money in machine work getting the opening to match. You have to do a lot of flow work before a 52mm throttle body becomes your bottleneck.

if you look at the specs from a custom grind and compare them to off the shelf grind, you arent going to see that big of a difference. Custom should always be better but off the shelf cams are not crap.
