Default 6 Speed swap, Should I stay auto.

Ok first of all, im selling my Talon as it sits for 4,100 with the blown motor. I have a transam thats sitting.

I really have wanted a 6speed car for a long time, its not fun owning AWD and not being able to slam the gears. I know Auto is going to be better for 1/4 but its just the fun factor.

Has anyone done it on here, and how hard is it. Ive search and dont really have any qeustions.

Its A get the auto rebuilt, shift kit, and a stall, or B get a 6speed and swap it. I already have the peddles etc for a 6speed.

Im also limited to 4,100 and the TA might need a new motor.

Car has had alot of things replaced low miles, new paint etc. Rims there alot of aftermarket stuff with it. Its coming with spare parts, the motor only cost 800 to rebuild.

Alot of things have been replaced in it, but does this have anything to do with the topic?

IMO, I would stay auto. Mine is A4, and I want a manual so bad, but it is better off to get a manual car from the start. Less of a pain, and the auto is alot faster, cause alot of people mess up the manual. That, and there will be alot of custom stuff to change from Auto to Manual. Did it once, pita....

...But thats just me.

Im the same way, I like my cars mannual. Thats what is keeping me from wanting to sell my talon.

Im not a race car drive, but I can drive most people let me drive for them etc. Its just for the fun factor of ripping gears, and choosing wich one you want to be in.

If your Trans Am is close to stock, then you're much better off just selling it and buying a 6 speed car. It's not worth the hassel or money to do the convertion.

Honestly a conversion is a PITA. Sell the talon and the TA and get another LT1/M6 car.

The M6 sucks as a daily driver for most people because of traffic and such, but for me however I love it. Personal choice I guess. I specifcally looked for an M6 car, already owned an A4 LT1 and didn't like it that much. M6 is much better

I'd say either do the swap or buy an 6-speed car. Its just so much more enjoyable actually being involved and in complete control of the car every second. Besides, real racecars have 3 pedals

I totally agree, and it was a bitch trying to find a Black M6 in my area. Definately worth it though.

I've done the swap. It wasn't too bad. Just make sure to get a good write up and a complete list of the parts/tools you need before you start.

I got lucky, only took me a month to find my 97 Z28 with 54k miles

But yeah, taking your time and finding what you want will get you the BEST results every time. In the end you'll be happy you sweated it out driving the beater for so long!

the swap isn't THAT bad. i did it last summer. it's usually not cheap to round up all the parts. i got lucky and basically got everything for $1200 including a freshly rebuilt t56. if you want to know anything specific send me a PM 'cuz i will probably forget about this thread.

here's the write up most ppl think is the best and it's the one i used.

I think you could buy a 6spd if you sold the TA, and combined it with the $$ from the Talon.

Aoutos are good for Drag Racing and not as much fun on the street. I like driving the Mach on the street alot more then my Z.
