LT4 conversion kit
BTW.. do u think this is enough to beat a basically stock 04 WRX sti... The conversion kit, a 3400 rpm stall, some 3.42's exhaust, intake...
The ONLY reason for the popularity of those parts is people such as yourself who see it in magazines and catalogue and then buy it without research, at least you are smart enough to ask questions first so hopefully we can help break that vicious cycle of ignorance.

First off GM has discontinued the LT4 Intake. So no more LT4 conversion kit without buying used manifold.
The main point is yes the parts are good, and they make good power, but you can spend a lot less elsewhere (ie Loyd Elliot (sp)) and get a lot more power.
LT4 heads are 195cc versions of stock LT1 heads with slightly bigger valves... any stage II LT1 heads will KILL a set of stock LT4 heads.. combine that with a good cam that is not a ***** small cam like the LT4 hot cam and you can make much better useable power and still be smog legal.... I don't think you are thinking about porting a set of LT4 heads and then slapping them on so I say stick to the LT1 **** and have them worked. easily more power in the long run for the same or less cash....
Is there better heads and cams out there for a stock displacement motor if so were can i get em

Gizmo remeber you are looking at this from an as cast standpoint, most of us are just playing with street cars so porting is allowed for us. OutlawZ covered things pretty well.

It's no secret that I am a regular reader on this forum. One thing worth noting is that the LT1 guys are building way tamer cars than the LS1 guys. Matching modification to modification things would get a lot closer. I have been to a couple of the shoot-outs and the fast LS1 cars are all closer to race cars than street cars. I know of a few people with really strong LT1 cars, but that is just not the norm. That's why I want to run an LT4 against the "Big Dogs". Maybe it will be fun?

The PCM is a big difference, but not as much of a factor for big cube engines. I know of a couple of 383's that run low tens with the factory PCM (Ed Wright and Rick Ayber). For really good small cube motors and serious big cube motors an aftermarket system is a must. There are a lot more benefits to an aftermarket set-up than extra RPM. Even the LS1 crowd are starting to figure that one out! The Mustang racers faced the same issues in the past and fixed them with aftermarket systems.
The LS1 heads are better from the factory. But, that gap can be closed with all of the aftermarket parts/modifications that are available.
I don't think that there is any real advantage to the LS1 short block. If anything I like the bigger bore of the LT1.
The LT1/LT4 intakes are pretty good. I like the look of the new Edelbrock intakes. I think that they will run cooler and gain a little HP. The next step would be a sheet metal intake which will give good gains.
I should have my current Stocker project finished by the end of April. It is in the process of getting the underside painted. The motor and transmission are ready. Once the Stocker hits the track I will pull "Gump" out and take some before pictures. I will find a way to document the whole build up on here.

Funny you should mention Rick and Ed I have emailed back and forth with both of them and know they can both teach us a lot. I find it interesting just how close their times are even given the LT1 vs. LT4 castings and Rick's higher DA, would love a more indepth comparison of both cars. I know they have the same tuner(Ed) and tranny builder(ProBuilt which is what I have) and both run solid rollers.
