Ignition Problem: Engine has no spark......... Here's the situation: 1994 Pontiac Trans Am, 5.7L, 4L60E.
Car was running well, I was just cruising last night without problems, I went home and parked it, the car has been on the same spot since last night, I went to fire it up today and it just wouldn't start. Engine has no spark, I took off ignition module and coil to get them tested... both tested good. Fuses are ok, what else could trigger no spark??????? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are u getting spark at the coil. Pull the one side off the opit and have some one crank it for u to see if u get spark( u will need to ground it to the block, just put a plug in the boot and hold it near the block/head.

ok if it does have spark at the coil then pull a spark plug out and keep the wire going to it atacked and crank it and see it it sparks . Try it with a few, If u have spark at the coil and no spark at the plugs then ur opti spark is bad.
If u Have no spark at the coil, and ur ingnition modulal is fine, and then it woudl have to be an ignition relay. ( CHECK A HANES MANUAL FOR HELP WITH THAT) Make sure u check all the wires to the coil and the modual also. the manuel will tell u how ot check voltage at the wires to the coil.
My guess is that its your opti spark. You dont have an aftermarket ignition system do u? Is the motor truning over when u try to start it?

Yeah, Well put it this way i put a brand new opti in when i did my motor build up and it lasted 16 miles. It shreaded itself, I then got the rebuild kit for like 100 dollars and made some of my own improvements when i had it apart. Worked fine after that.

I have not been under the hood of our cars of about 6 months now, But if i remember there is an igniton relay in that little black box on the right side of the car buy they wheel well (driver side) near abs crap. My car is a 96 so not sure if urs is the same
Well, it has been enough for today, I'll call it a day. I will be at it tomorrow, by the way, thanks for all the help, you have a nice looking car, love the real flames on the car.

Not saying this is your problem but a further testing of your coil is all.

if fuses are ok and relays are ok ... i would say module. they do act funny when warm/ cold.. my 86 monte carlo ss did the same thing. drove it home parked it, next day. crank and crank and crank....no spark, replaced module bingo fired right up
