Default Edelbrock LT1 air gap intake?

Any one heard any release dates yet? I check on LT4 intakes yesterday and they have been discontinued by GM 11/1/05. What I understand is the air gap will not be released unless it makes the same or more power then a LT4 intake does.

I'm in the process of completly re-doing my car. Anyway, engine got back Tuesday...and we're waiting on an LT4 intake. They engine shop heard about the air gap LT4 intake and said it was supposed to be out in April sometime...so here's to hoping!

Not to sound ignorant, but what's an air gap intake and why would you want one?

basically they remove material from the intake manifold (like between the ports and so forth) creating a valley that air can circulate through to cool the intake, and lessen the chance of heatsoak. I'm kinda not very optimistic and would say you might see .1 at the track with one. Note that you'll have to do gasket matching if using stock heads because the ports on their manifold are sized for their heads.

People get all hard over the LT4 intake but REALITY is internally it is an LT1 intake it just has more material above the ports to seal to the taller LT4 head ports and offer material for port matching should you decide to go that route.

On the AirGap design, think about it for a second it is only hot radiator air that will go through to "cool" the intake charge. This is a MUCH better marketting ploy than actual useful feature.

another advantage of the air gap, which yall mite find this dumb, is you can pack ice on top of it just before you get to the line and it will help to cool the intake and reduce heatsoak. just my two pennies. ive seen people do it with older 350 and what not and they saw a difference at the track.

Icing an intake will help especially on this being that it will have less mass. But the fact still remains that I'd be willing to bet, all the important stuff that makes power in an intake such as runner length, plenum(sp) volume, and so forth is prolly stock....

It'll still be a better deal then the LT4 intake if it's under $200.

^^ Given that yes.. But if you have a regular LT1, I don't really see much of point unless they prove it makes more power.

I iced my intake, had cold air induction, and could not get any traction at all.
I hope that edelbrock changed the internals. If these intakes make it to market and provide a measureable gain; I'll buy one!

Not stock ones. You need to do gasket matching on the heads IIRC>

I want one, i would buy one for every LT1 i owned (2) if it outflowed the LT4 intake by alot and was full bolt on. Would be nice to bolt on an EFI intake that is replacement that flows well like the LS1 with fast lol.

You REALLY need to start doing some learning .
The LT4 intake is just an LT1 intake with some more ALUMINUM above the ports, no more open space or anything just more metal, NO EXTRA FLOW.
People that are this thick are why we have such a hard time getting good products out of the aftermarket , get a clue.

Read this

I suppose though what can we expect from someone who thinks the Edelbrock heads/cam package is worthwhile .
