Default How to prime a LT1 before startup

My Lt1 has been out for a little over a year. I will install it in a couple
of weeks, and would like to know how in the world do LT1's get primed
before startup?????

Turn the key to the ON position. The fuel pump will turn on and prime the system. You might need to do it a few times. If you have a fuel pressure gauge you will see it rise.

i'm pretty sure he means priming the oil system? I'm yet to tear into an lt1 so i wouldn't be able to tell you where to access the oil pump drive... but i'm sure someone on here can

you would have to pull the intake to get to it.

I would just pull the injector fuses and crank it over till you get oil pressure. Just do it in short bursts so you wont burn up your starter. I have done this in the past and it works great.

What about priming through the oil pressure sensor w/ a pressurized system then after you get oil in there maybe a quart then put the sensor back on then start?

if you press the gas pedal all the way down it should not fire the injectors, if it does start you could have an injector leaking so you may be better off unhooking the fuel pump

I believe that would more trouble than it would be worth due to the location of the sender.

The correct way to prime an LT1 is to do it through the distributor hole in the back of the block under the intake. Even though LT1's don't use a distributor, there is still provisions for one and a plastic retainer that is bolted down over the hole. Just remove the retainer and use a standard priming tool to prelube the engine before you fire it.
