DO NOT manually shift ur A4, unless you want to be rebuilding it. manually shifting the A4 causes the line pressure tighter which is more wear on the tranny.
I learned the hard way.
My suggestion is just race him in OD or have it in 1st or 2nd at 4k and then ROMP on it and right after u hit the gas SHIFT it all the way into OD. DO NOT manually shift ur car.
I really wouldnt even suggest doing what i said about having it in 1st then putting it in OD.
But if you leave it in OD, just on the second honk punch it, byt the 3rd honk the power should hit.

Do it from a dig. Put the car in '3' and punch it from a dig. Practice getting it out of the hole. Brake it and slowly add gas. That's why I hate autos. You don't need 'em unless you're going really fast or spraying.

I tested the car out again today.... At a 25mph roll it takes off so freaken hard with no tire spin so I'm going to suggest we do a 25mph roll on the highway. Eventhough he's got 3.73's I think my torque will make up for it at the 25mph roll. I guess we'll run to about 120 or so, so if he gets a jump on me, I got time to overtake his 3.73's with my 3.23's in the top end. Can't wait to race now

Okay, so many people in here are idiots, don't listen to half of them telling you to manually shift.
I've got an auto and I've raced tons on the street, just do this. The only time you're gonna want to shift is if you're in first and you just put the shifter into first so that if you spin and wanna get out of it, it won't upshift. If you don't spin, just push it right into OD and keep it floored. Race from a stop -> 20mph if you don't think you'll spin, which you shouldn't too badly. From a bigger roll, make sure you do it 50-55, otherwise you'll be in the bottom of 2nd or the top of 1st and the trans won't downshift leaving you out of the power-band.
If you've got any more question, feel free to IM me.

It's nice to have the fastest car in school...I was unlucky and never raced the guy that everyone claimed had the faster car (mistsubishi 3000gt...NOT a VR4)...I didnt know much back then and neither did anyone else but they just assumed since his was a 3000gt it was way faster than my 94 Z28....3 years later he sold the car to some other guy who I ended up finding out I could take with my 99 Monte carlo Z34 lol...oh well..
Back to your question...you will win

I manually shift my third gen all of the time, but then again it has the 700R4, so I'm not really sure about the 4L60E's. Anyways, I have a bolt-on L98 91 camaro and I raced a 2004 GT auto with exhaust, gears, and CAI from a 30 mph roll and I got him by a couple of cars. You should win.

upshifting will not hurt your 4l60e. downshifting it will.
Hold it in first at the roll, whomp on it and throw it in 3. You'll be fine.
As for whether you'll beat him... do bears **** in the woods? lol those mustangs are the slowest pieces of crap..
