Default a/c acting wierd

ok, my a/c works great for about 5, maybe 10 minutes, then it just stops and blows hot air, i know the compressor is turning off, so that is why it is getting hot, i did evacuate and pull a vacuum on it at work last week, recharged it with the prooper amount of freon, and it didnt have any leaks, it held the 24 inch vacuum for 10 minutes or so, so i cant decide whether it would be the expansion valve or maybe the low pressure switch messing up not letting the compressor come back on, and i dont have any gauges close or handy for a week or so, so anyone else have any problems like this? thanks

Wierd, mine was kinda cold, then it went warm. Mine had a leak though. I removed that whole system, so no problems now. If yours has no leaks, then it is something with the compressor.

yeah, it works great for the first 5-10 minutes you turn the car on, and i made sure my air dam was still there in the front, cuz i thought maybe it wasnt getting enough air over the condensor causing it to do that, and its too hot here in the summer, plus its a black car, and leather, or else i would delete the a/c.

I would say its the high pressure switch acting up causing the compressor to kick off.were your high side readings ok when you recharged the system?

very well could the HP switch, checking the relay is easy and free. It would help if we had some gauge #s to work with.

ok, i borrowed some harbor freight gauges from one of my buddies, and at idle, it acts fine forever, ps1's are low 28-32, and high fluctuates from 200-250, at 250 the fans kick in and drop it to 200, so i have my dad rev it up to 2500, and the pressures low drops to about 20, and high goes to about 260/255 or so, and the compressor clutch kicks out like it is suppossed to, but it never kicks back in, and the pressures equalize, but this is on a/c max, so we tried it on regular a/c and the compressor stays kicked in all the time, so i think i will go to the parts store and see if they have a high pressure switch, and replace that first since its not kicking the compressor back in when the high side gets low enough, hopefully this will fix it.

i thought the high pressure switch could be changed without evacuating the system?

ok, so i replaced the high presure switch, and its still doing it, i guess i am left with pulling the expansion valve out and figuring out why the high pressure is getting up to 300, so i might as well replace the expansion valve just to make sure i guess. Any other suggestions?

Looks like you might have a restriction, blockage on the high side. If replacing the exp valve doesn't fix it I'd go with high side line. Go ahead and do the dryer also since it will be exposed to moisture in the air.
