Default Easiest way to pull a motor ?

What is the easiest way to pull my motor ?

Some people say to drop it from the bottom.I do not have access to a lift so i'm concerned w/getting the car in the air high enough to get the motor out from underneath it.

Can i pull it the regular way ? Someone had told me i can and that it's rather easy.Looking under the hood , it don't look so easy.

Thanks,
Dale

I pulled mine from the top and it was a PIA, and even when you have everything loose and all wires and hoses disconnected, it will be hard to pull the motor out due to the way its positioned inside the engine bay.

it toke me about 6 hours of labor to take it out, keep in mine that i left the tranny inside the car, i think it would have been smarter if i pulled it the other way.

I pull it from the bottom it is still work but very much easier , but you will need a rack. If you do not have a rack its not recomended to do it

you dont need a rack to pull it out the bottom... maybe for more safety but you can use a cherry picker and 2 floor jacks thats what me and my friend did for mine i have never pulled a motor before and we had it out in about 5 hours thats including all the BS time when we were just sitting around talking and wasting time

if you are going to use a lift, which obviously you dont, you want to use a 2 legged lift...so your front wheels are loose and you lift the chassis. Go out the bottom if you can...its easier plus you can assemble the clutch and tranny and bleed everything from the outside of the car...and goes it pretty 'simple'

Yea my vote is for from the bottom, its just a pain because the windshield overhang is way out there and the radiator leans so far back. I have heard its not so hard if you take the radiator and the rad support out, but that might be worth your time considering you have no way of getting it out from the bottom

Oh hell yes it is, I pulled the motor on mine from the bottom took like 1-2hrs with a lift. All I recomend is watch the brake lines going out and putting back in, oh and the slave cylinder if it is an M6 one detail that I forgot in watching the brake lines.

Pulled both of mine out the bottom, took about 5 hrs on the first, then we figured some stuff out and took about 2 on the second. We used a chain fall to raise the car, and a furniture dolly (yes it did work) to set the engine on. And yeah, watch those break lines as already mentioned. Good luck.

My biggest concern is getting the body up high enough to get it out from underneath.

Does anyone have a list of what all needs to be unattached from the motor like sensors , injectors , etc ?

I'd like to pull it as complete as possible !

We pulled mind out from under the car in a little over an hour, no joke. Not having AC helps. We just got the harness disconnected off of the Computer, left everything on the engine and seperated it from the car, and as far as the connections, look around and you will see them. Everything went really quick. Unbolt the power steering box and tie it to the engine somewhere, unbolt the steering shaft, disconnect the brake lines, coolant lines, slave cylinder, and all the electrical connections off of the transmission. Take off the torque arm and the drive shaft, upper ball joints and lower strut connections on the control arm. Then support the K member, and unbolt the 6 bolts. Raise the body off of it. There you go..

Dale -

I pulled mine from up top - Came out very clean (outside of me breaking the windshield not watching the chains getting tension...)

Then again I have more room than most because it is carb'd. But in all honesty it was not much of a hassle grabbin from the top out.

One more vote for going thru the bottom. Its pretty straight forward once you get to it. Whatever way you choose, be sure to take your time.

Goodluck!

I'm up to the same evil deed, check out these links below, this guy has this great write up, I plan to follow through on it. It won't be another 2-3 weeks for me but if you follow these directions before then let me know how it goes. Most everyone reports 5 hours , the guys above state less, with this list im trying to go under 5 myself. Just found it today, life seems easier already. The beauty is if your going to rebuild the front end which I am, going from the bottom is definitely the way to go, cuz the front end is all open.
