edlebrock intake commin soon
since everyone's comparing this new Edelbrock intake to the LT4, I'm curious. How much better does the LT4 flow compared to the stock? What about stock ported? Are any of the sheetmetal intakes out there for street use at all?
If it looks good and gains alittle power than I'll buy one. I'm tired of going to car shows and everyone having the same red lt4 intake as me, makes my car look like just another lt1.
I've been thru a couple of these Edelbrock intake threads and from what I hear from many of the tech people I talk to it really won't be worth it. This "air gap" may help a bit with heatsoak issues, but then how much plenum volume are they giving up for it? I mean how can it truly be leaps and bounds ahead of the stock manifold or the lt4, Edelbrock first began marketing this in 1995 , but decided not to sell them b/c they gave no improvement over stock. Me- I'll prolly either port the stocker or go with a sheet metal one.
Another point to ponder...How long does the air remain in the manifold during normal operation of the engine...A fraction of a second? Can the incoming air heat that quickly? I understand the advantage of drawing in cooler, outside air to start with, but I'm not sure that the air gap principle would help the LT-1.
Most of the 4 bbl. air gaps also seem to be a bit taller, so you'll see some "ram effect", but unless the Air Gap LT-1 is taller, to compensate for the lost volume, I don't see a big gain. If it was strictly a true "bolt-on", I'd consider it, but I'm not into spending probably around $300, then having to "work it to fit, for a questionable gain. (at least with stock heads)

i agree with most people in here... im not going to rush out and buy something that isnt proven...
plus i rather go for a single plain intake

here are some of the pics of mine when i first cut into mine. the reason the cuts all nasty is becouse the cast aluminum doesnt like the plasma cutter.
