Default upshift question ...

I just had my new tranny built and finished, it has a transgo stage 2 shift kit in it, and a vigi 3200 ... the rest is just all the beefy 4l60e parts ... well the stall flashes and hooks great, but when i upshift the rpms only drop back down to 4,000 and it feels like im missing my power band ... unless im on crack who knows lol. car feels great from a dig though!

i agree you put it in drive and go. at most just drop it in 3rd and go from there. itll pull a little harder out of the hole and then just shift around 6. im runnin pretty much the same from what you say i.e. built 4l60e and shift kit.

im talking about when it is in drive, if i get on it from dig when it shifts the rpms only drop back down to 4,000 rpm ... iono its just weird. i only have 130 miles on the new tranny, and the more and more it breaks in the shifts feel a lot firmer, starting to love it.

http://www.fuddleracing.com/WhatConvertersDo.html

Shift Extension: Most automatic cars experience a dead spot immediately after the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. It will feel really strong all through first gear (with LS1's particularly at the top RPM because that is where LS1's like to be, high RPM's). Notice immediately after the 1-2 shift (and 2-3, if you get that high) that it seems to fall flat on its face for a couple of seconds. That is the dead spot and can feel like more than a couple seconds at the track. It feels weak until the RPM's get to where they should be, and the power feels like it comes back. With a stall converter, the RPM's do not fall like they do with a stock converter. Expect the RPM's to stay considerably higher after the shifts with a stall converter, completely getting rid of the dead zone.

Unfourtunately it created a deadzone for me :[ My tq curve really started to dive around 4,500rpm, so with it only hitting 500rpm of pulling power the stock converter felt better. Guess its time for bolt ons! This would also explain the dig feeling so good since my tq maxes and stays flat from 3k till 5k when it just falls flat on its ***

Check the trans fluid, make sure it is filled up properly.
What other mods do you have? ie TB, tuning?
I do not recall this lag you mention but anything is possible. What gears are you running?

You really should post this in the auto section. I have a feeling your converter is killing you. Honestly make the same thread in there and see what they say.

a tune will fix firmness problems, but if your car does not pull hard past 4,500 you have other issues
