Default help car won't start.

Ok so I just helped my buddy put his motor back in his 97 z28. the car will not start. it has power, has fuel and the motor cranks. it just cranks and cranks but doesn't fire. we can't figure out what is happening. changed out the coil and the optispark and nothing. we are totally lost. the plugs were wet after about 25 seconds of cranking.

I'm sure you have already done it, but check all your electrical connections, expecially with the Coil and the Opti. Could be a Fuze, or an Ignition Relay.

He said the plugs were wet. That would mean it is getting fuel, but no spark. Check for blown fuses, corrosion on the opti harness, and make sure the opti is installed correctly.

So is the car actually getting spark? Are the wires on in the right order? You only need fuel, spark and compression to get it to start and we know you have fuel and most likely compression as well. Does it hickup or try to start even?

it cranks over fine. we pulled a plug wire and put a lawnmower spark plug on it real quick, and it sparked when we cranked it over. we changed opti's and it still had problems.

You may be getting spark in the correct time. Check the opti installation. And check the to make sure the wires are on the correct cylinder.

well i know how much people hate not knowing the outcome, so heres what i heard tonight

cam was 3 teeth off, noticed by air coming out the intake
apperently 97's injectors run a fuse and relay, so with the fuse pulled, the injectors still fire, so he flooded out all the cylinders
also had a bad connection going to the coil, needed a new harness

re-alinged cam, re-oiled the cylinders, new harness = car was running tonight, saw it myself
